Description Cassowaries are a large flightless bird belonging to the "Ratite" family. In Australia this large ratite is confined to rainforests and associated habitats in northern Queensland. The cassowary has a horny helmet, called a casque, on its head. This helps it crash its way through the thick forest.

These birds are crazy... One of my uncle's friends came from the UK and thought it was like an emu (he'd recently been emu racing the weekend before) so he jumped on it's back and tried to ride it......
Unfortunately, he only angered it. I've never seen someone run so fast from such an angry bird! Hehehe
Great shot - I love the way the light jumps off the blue!

Awesome shot! Aren't those things supposed to be mean though? Did you manage to get close to it or use a telephoto?

Apparently they are pretty nasty! Definitely telephoto! Lots of signs on the roads in the forests where they have been seen crossing to warn drivers to slow down as they are large birds too... So nasty and big, bad combination... Cheers for the collection add too!

Haha I once saw Steve Irwin try to tangle with one... and it broke several of his ribs. Ow. Glad it was a telephoto!!

Nice shot! The composition feels a little awkward to me, perhaps if you'd given a bit less room to the helmet to place more focus on the face? But I really like the depth of field you've got going
