Description United Colors of Fall

A simple panorama of a small lake near where I live. Had to stitch together 6 shots to make this one work. Sorry it's so big, but it's hard to make a panorama small. I hope it was worth the wait.

*Update - New lake, different day and conditions. this one took 8 shots to fit together*

Thanks Donna! It's not far from my house either. But then, there are a lot of lakes not far from my house, it seems.

You are most welcome, swesty! How convenient that must be....to have so many beautiful photo-ops so close to home! I would love that, just to paint them!

I wish you could come here and paint some of it. I think you would love the west coast of Michigan. That's a great place to paint.

Did you have to take the eight photographs quite quickly?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

badman22 In reply to Sutur [2004-10-31 00:15:42 +0000 UTC]

Yes, in rather rapid succession. Just not so quick to make for bad shots. That doesn't enhance the effect at all.

Sutur In reply to badman22 [2004-10-31 10:02:25 +0000 UTC]

Right, because I've done a few of these, none of which are deviations here, and I found that it's difficult to stitch them unless they're taken as fast as possible - particulally on a cloudy day, where the light intensity changes more frequently! I suppose it's all down to a careful balance between speed and quality (Unless your digital, then you can take as many as you like )
Lovely photo, excellent colour and the right time of day, shows your dedication to photography

badman22 In reply to Sutur [2004-10-31 16:53:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, I do have a digital camera, but you're right, speed is important. But you can still only do so much. After that it is all creative blending. But I have found that the better the photos, the easier they are to stitch. And on cloudy days, I think the key is waiting for the right opportunity when you have a break in the clouds that will last long enough to take your shots without much or any lighting shift.

Thank you.

Wow, you sure do a great job stitching all the photos together. I can't even tell. I tried it once but I couldn't get the bottom to match the top.... oh well - I'll try again someday.

What a beautiful view!

Thank you! I really like panoramas too. I would do more, but they are so large, and with dial-up, they can take a long time. But every once in a while, I think it's acceptable.

This... as I might have mentioned earlier, is excellent.

I like the trees off in the distance towards the left as well as the subtle ripples in the water from the calm autumn winds and the big, puffy cloud above the trees on the right.

Awesome. I can't wait to get out an take a panorama and play with stitching.

I'm trying to get my parents to help me out with getting a new camera sooner than later. My dad really wants to. He wants to see what else I'm capable of. But neither of us have the money to get one. My mum likes my photos too, but she's worried my brother and sister would throw a fit if they bought me something that expensive.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

badman22 In reply to akpanda [2004-10-19 23:05:44 +0000 UTC]

I understand you wanting to. Believe me, I've started looking at new cameras myself, and I know there's no way I can afford one now. But just make sure that if you do get one, get what you want. If you have to settle for less or wait a little longer, then wait a little longer. You won't regret it. You at least still have one to work with until then.

just awesome! Its 5:30 am here in the CT. I am walking down the street to "my" lake. Q: do you use software to stich these or by eye? My Canon G3 has a panorama option but I have not messed with it enough to master it. If I had to figure this out I would say- tripod, steady hand and many shots!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

badman22 In reply to matrix2003 [2004-10-19 00:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! And my Canon has that feature too, but I've never used it. I didn't use a tripod either, even though I own one. Just a steady hand and keeping the camera as level as possible. The rest is photoshop, and that's the easy part. At least if the originals are right. I've had much tougher stitches before, that's for sure.
