May I ask if you work "on spot", or based on memory, or sketches, or maybe photography?

These pictures capture the places so very well, I can hardly imagine anything but "on spot work" to achieve the effect, at the same time the size of the paper and all the material does not exactly seem something easy to be carried around.

Have a beautiful new year, too, looking forward to your work!

All of the above, actually! This very painting was painted at home, based on my memories, real-life impressions and some reference photos I did while I was there last Friday. This other recent sketch, for exmple, was drawn right on the mountaintop, shivering with cold: flic.kr/p/HTwgV2

Looking at the photoes it doesn't look like an A3 paper, which gathered from the description it actually is.

Also, wows for being able to draw in cold like that!
This summer my grandfather took my sister and me on a tour in Scandinavia, which was both a wonderful experience and a little bit of a disappointment.
Disappointment because the tourist bus had to run through every place to do its program, 90% of the time spent in the bus and practically no time for exploring. Everything else was beautiful. Your landscapes kind of remind me of the sights there. I tried to do some sketches at the stops but even though it was summer my fingers would go sometimes numb.

Looking at these photoes of yours I'm awed not only by your ability to draw but also that you can do that in such cold weather.

Also, thank you very, very much for sharing the progress, looking at the different stages of a picture is one of my favourite things.

You are welcome. And yes, it really was an A3 format)
I always travel on my own, but I only travel around my area, i.e. the Crimean peninsula, which is full of astonishinly beautiful natural places as well as ancient monuments of the past civilizations. Crimea is ususally viewed by non-Crimeans as a warm Black Sea tourist paradise with palm trees and beaches, which makes is it even more exciting to picture Crimea in winter, with snow, if only just on the mountaintops.
