Description
Acrylic on Canvas board. I believe the piece is 17 inches by 11 or so. I always loved the way trees can cast spotted shadows on things, especially on animal pelts. It simply amazed me how many color variations can be made by the light. I guess now I know why monet painted the same image over and over simply in varying light. Anyway this started out as a mere experiment to see if I could get the effect of spotted light. I think it worked rather well though I am unhappy with the ground because I ran out of the right brown mid painting and had to mix.Related content

Wow. This is another piece of yours that I really love. It's not everyday that you see blue, spotted lions... even if it is a trick of the light. It's just so unusual, and yet the lions, the ground, and the sky and grasses just complement each other so well. I'm kind of glad you ran out of the "right" brown paint; it looks great with the "wrong" brown. Fantastic piece.

The light is lovely. Light is such a tricky thing and it changes moment to moment. I take photo's and I'm never happy with the light. It's why I love looking at art. The artist has so much control. Another favourite! I just love big cats. (And little ones)

Really, I adore this as well as the other traditional pieves of yours.. The lemurs, the little boy with the candle (which by the way had a truly beautiful story), the scene of the truck in the grass.. You're excellent at traditional medias, in this piece in particular you captured the light very well. I too love the play of lights, but I haven't yet captured it in a drawing as good as you. The lionesses looks totally lovely, and the colourscheme is just awesome..

This has got to be the BEST deviation that I have seen my entire time here on DA.. Everything in this picture is right-on, the anatomy of the faces and body of the lions are perfect . The colors are wonderfuly chosen, and everything else is simply just beautiful. I bet this could get a "daily deviation" if one of the staff saw it.

Excellent beyond words. I am also an acrylic painter and I love what you did with the light and color hues. I also admire that you added in the spots to the females, like most people seldom do. I just finished a piece with lions and I must say, getting shades down was a pain so I know what you went through and I'm glad you stuck it out. This is a masterful composition with a lot of heavy mood. Looks to me like they may be watching a herd go by before the evening hunt begins.

I adore shadow and contrast.. and the flowey soft colours in this are lovley. I like the different choice of colours, almost surreal overall, and how smoothe they look. Very nice. The darkest areas are attracting me. muchly.
