Description “You’re sure you don’t want cubs, Lethabo?”

Bontu’s light, teasing chuckle was answered by his brothers deep baritone laugh, the latter trying to not shake his head and disengage the four year old lodged in his dark brown mane.

“I’m content in being Uncle, Bontu. With all the cubs you guys have had, there’s never a shortage of tiny paws!”

“I’m inclined to agree with him,” Nala II put in, laying on her side with Bontu’s light-colored son and her own adopted daughter playing on her. “Our generation and this one are not for want of playmates!”

Behind Bontu, Pumzika took in Zola’s newborn daughter, with Zola looking on anxiously. “Some of us didn’t plan these playmates, you know!” Zola snorted, shaking her head. “Some of us didn’t know they were supposed to be born, Spirits be blessed.” Zola and Pumzika had been on the way to this reunion when Zola had come down with what she thought was a stomach ache. Turned out, the stomach ache had fur and a loud wall.

Hewa and her son trotted up to the crowd, the boy doing his very best to put every paw forward in a dignified manner. After all, if he was going to lead his own pride one day, lions would have to start taking him serious.

On the other side of the clearing, Gugulethu stood with her two cubs, looking back for her niece who had made the journey with them.

“EDE! Come along, don’t dawdle.”

The young teen in question blanched. “I’m sorry, Aunt Gugu, Mom and Dad were fighting again and I guess I can’t get it out of my mind.”

Gugu softened her gaze. “Yes well, you’re away from them for a few nights at least. Do try and enjoy yourself, dear.”

Bontu looked out to his siblings and their children, and couldn’t help but feel delighted. He knew, somehow, that everything would be alright.
