"Aunt Nadra! Oh I haven't seen you in ages!" Kiara bounded up, butting heads with her aunt. A shy little cub peeked out from behind the older lioness and Kiara grinned at him.
"Who is this handsome boy?"
"Kiara, meet my son, Kijani."
Kiara blinked, surprise lighting up her face. "I didn't know you wanted cubs. I just... I'm sorry, I mean congratulations! It's just, well, most of the pride your age have grandcubs these days. I'm just surprised."
"Yes, well, I was too. You know I've been living with Kula and her family, with the Mafua Ardhi pride? Well, I found a wandering rogue nearby. What started out as a border skirmish between us turned into something else, and months later Kijani blessed me with his presence."
"We always need more cubs. You know you're welcome here any time. Come on, I'll introduce you to those you haven't met yet. It's been years, I don't think I've seen you since my wedding..." Kiara trailed off, her eyes clouding over. Her children were almost ten, and it still hurt to think of how her marriage ended. Shaking off the sadness, she gestured towards the cave behind them with her head. "Come on. My kids are about his age. And several others have cubs around their age, despite that I had cubs so late in life--"
"Girl, you don't have anything on me. Late in life my tail!" Kiara and Nadra chuckled and Kiara slung a paw around her old aunt.
"It is terrific to have you home."
