We are good people
We are absolutely, positively
Full of love and compassion
We hold those qualities
In the very highest esteem
It would be a real shame
To waste them on PEOPLE
We hope for social reforms
For all the folks we don't hate
We are very civically minded
I'm sure the check is in the mail
We hope ignorant, indigent masses
Can find the support they need
Can find jobs and be happy
Just not in our neighborhoods
We are self-absorbed
Self-entitled, self-interested
Self-centered and generally wonderfully
Humane, philanthropic hypocrites
Clueless, gutless, spineless,
Indulgent cowards
DON’T YOU DARE JUDGE US!
And yet we can’t help but wonder
With amazing people like us around
Why the world is spiraling downward
Into confusion and dissolution
There’s not much we can do
At least we can be sure
It definitely isn’t
Our fault

This is satirical, of course. But it is up to us to make a difference.
We may feel helpless and small, but we can change ourselves.
We might not be able to make sweeping social changes overnight
but we can make a difference to the people around us today.
We can take time to open our eyes and be compassionate.
And, if we make a difference in the life of just one soul,
and that person helps another person, and so on,
imagine the possibilities!

Kindness is a gift we give whole world,
one person at a time.
