2023 isn't over yet and, while celebrity obituaries are sure to continue, I was recalling a few who passed some time ago. 23 years ago in David Tomlinson's case.

Back when Disney produced live action films that weren't simply remakes of animated movies, Tomlinson's face became most recognizable to me for having been in three classics that I'd watch repeatedly on home cassette; as the strict and job-driven family man George Banks in Mary Poppins (1964), the villainous Peter Thorndyke in The Love Bug (1968), and the more likable salesman/charlatan Emelius Browne in Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971).

The man really lived a life, participating in World War II as a Flight Lieutenant and insructor in the Royal Air Force before diving into work as an actor. He did retire from acting in 1980, ultimately passing on in the year 2000 with a lot of titles in his filmography that I've yet to see. Present-day Hollywood can keep on striking...
