At long last... Lamia. Took me long enough.

Lamia is what I like to call the "main protagonist" of the Young Vampire series. There are 10 main characters (including Lilith, the villain), but Lamia is the one that the journey starts with, and we follow him the whole way through, despite meeting other characters and seeing things through their narration sometimes. He's the one that (hopefully) we grow to love and care for the most, because the whole thing is really about him.

His name is pronounced "lah-MY-uh," with the second syllable stressed. Traditionally, the name is pronounced "LAH-mee-uh," or even "LAY-mee-uh" (as in Michelle Pfeiffer's character in Stardust) because it's a Greek word referring to a man-eating demon - not necessarily a vampire, but it's most often construed that way. However, my character actually invented the word, and when the Greeks saw it in print, they pronounced it according to their language rules... which is wrong. Which makes Lamia really really angry, because it becomes a bona fide word. So yeah, it's "lah-MY-uh."

Lamia is a person with major personality flaws, and he knows it... but he's far too vain and dismorphophobic (afraid of being ugly) to admit any of it, so he'll be damned before he confesses his insecurities aloud. He probably harbors more regret than any other character in the series, although if anyone else sees it, they're a very lucky person indeed. His lyric is:

Shed the clothes that become my skin,
See the liar that burns within my needing
How I wish I'd chosen darkness from cold
How I wish I had screamed out loud,
Instead I've found no meaning.
