Description Here's a closeup portrait style pic of Sephiroth, My Sephiroth is based more on the gaunt Advent Children Sephiroth than the character from the game. Or at least what little of him you can see in the Advent Children trailers

My original sculpt is in Chavant clay, from that i pulled silicone molds and cast in a custom resin mix, i then drill my parts hollow and string with elastic (my dolls are completely poseable) i sand down the seams then paint on the makeups. The eyes are 17mm handmade masterpiece silicone eyes, his wig is mod acrylic, his armor is vacuformed "1/8 styrene, his costume was made by Dreux Priore "all of those little buckles and belts actually work"

sweet I love Sephiroth sooo much. I sculpt aswell but nothing ever that good I can't do faces so I just stick with animals. I made a doll out of sculpey..it didn't turn out at all I couldn't even string it right, how do you string them things? I can sew I know how to sew the clothing I...I've always liked making things for my stuffies to wear >> and maybe my kitty and doggies...hehe yeah so thats no problem. looking at your work though gives me the itch to sculpt like mad! wish I had a job I'd so commission you for my main man in the newest sculpt you have since I've been sent the monthly newsletters and such. everytime I see these it just makes me itch more and yeah I get jealous and well long for the day when I get to hold one of these magnificant dolls *cries* anyways...I must go and draw something now x-x no have no clay ><

Cause that's the doll I want. ^-^ And after seeing the work you did on Sephiroth and Cloud...I knew I would go through you. ^-^

It's raises suspicions within me, the way the world works. Just this afternoon I was in a comic book shop and they had Advent Children playing on the tele. Having been so focused on doing school properly this semester I haven't been paying attention to anime and video games for quite a while I was totally thrown by the animation and the character designs! Crazy stuff, that was. But the squirrely thing is that I c ame across your page somehow and lo, there's Sephiroth. I'm familiar with the character from FF of old, but to encounter two of the same previously unknown incaarnation of him in a single afternoon? That's just silly stuff, right there!

Your dolls are fantastic! I'm in the process of learning the world of stop motion animation, and I've become curious about different ways of making figures for it. I've found that my ball jointed drawing manequinnes are brilliant for the media, but they're rather ugly and not as human shaped as they'd like to be. Finding the little fellows to be a little short of what I'm looking for, I have been looking through pages and pages of doll images, wondering if some doll making technique will inspire me. Your collection has certainly helped add to the heap of thoughts to be used in brainstorming. And they're super-pretty! A definate plus!

Good luck getting your store website up and running, I'm curious to see what shows up : )

thank you im gald you like my dolls

It is odd how the world works isnt it, I like to call them "event strings" when an event connects and ties so neatly to a completley different but complementary thing. its like when 3 people who you havent heard from in 6 months all decide to call you on the same day..... makes you wonder whats going on behind the scenes huh

I havent actually gotten to see Advent Children yet, ive only seen just trailers but what little of it ive seen does look amazing! Im a big stop motion fan so i think its cool that your wanting to try your hand at it, i keep putting it off but i want to try and see if my dolls are animatible, they do hold a pose quite well so im sure its possible

My store finally opened a day ago, and ive already sold out of all the clothes and ive sold 2 dolls and ive sold out of the wigs i make and a few other things. Im very happy but a bit overwhelmed (but in agood way)

take care

I hate to ask but how much do your dolls cost? Or do you not sell them?
Your sculpting is gorgeous! I'm glad I came across your page. I told a few of my girlfriends about it, so I'm sure they will all be visiting your page also!
My boyfriend just recently made me a doll of himself. I'd attach a photo of it but I don't know how on here. He doesn't know how to sculpt or sew, he's a musician, but it came out really cute! I told him he should keep working on them.

BishonenHouse In reply to puppylaurah [2005-09-08 20:56:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes i do sell them

My online store wont be up untill the 16th but theres the addy [link] the gallery is up and a FAQ and Bio page is up as well.

For a base doll with no hair or makeup or customization they start out at $650 for a completed character like Tyler with makup, hair, a complete costume with boots, and custom eyes $850. for characters with more complicated outfits and custom props the price goes up. I do get a few people who like to make their own wigs/clothes buying the base dolls but most people want dolls that look like particular characters/people so i sell allot more of those.

Awww your boyfriends self portrait doll sounds really sweet, he sounds like a really great guy

puppylaurah In reply to BishonenHouse [2005-09-08 23:21:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh cool. I assumed they would be around $800.00-ish. Because that's what the super dollfie dolls go for. I showed your deviant art pictures to my boyfriend. And he loved them. I told him I mentioned the doll he made for me to you. He said, "Nooo! That guy is super professional. he'll hate mine." hehe I told him that the first doll you made probably looked a lot different then the dolls you do now, and you most likely have gotton better each time. But he was still horrified. He's funny. He made it for me because he lives in Holland and I am here in America. When he was in high school he made boots, so he knew how to make the tiny boots. He "faked" the sewing of the PVC pants and the jacket with studs. He sculpted the head himself even though he had no idea what he was doing. Anyway it turned out really cute and pretty detailed for someone who doesn't do that type of thing.
How did you decide to start making the dolls?
How many do you make a year?
All my friends I showed your page to loved it! Too bad none of my friends are rich. *pouts*
The gallery is really nice. Did you photograph the dolls yourself? The pictures are really nice.
Ok I'll check out your online store after the 16th. Thanks for letting me know!
Hugs,
~Laurah

Hi Laurah

Thats so cool!! you didnt freak when i told you the price!!! Thank you! most people that arent used to seeing the prices on art dolls or dollfies usually start sputtering and stuff when i tell them the prices, it always makes me crazy.

Yep there made allot like a super dollfies, except bigger. the jointing and sutch is very slimilar.

Aww your boyfriend sounds really cool, Wow! thats really impresive that he made the boots and everything, I order my boots from Japan and Hong Kong cause boots are hard to make!

I used to be a puppet builder, and ive always sculpted and like designing clothing, doing makeups/hair, setbuilding and propmaking,.. so making dolls just kinda was a way to combine a bunch of my interests
It took almost 9 months to complete all my master sculpts and molds, so i didnt actually start making finished dolls untill May, ive made 14 so far . For characters of medium complexity i can make about 3 dolls a month. for more complicated dolls with props and complicated costumes it can take a months per doll.

Thank you for telling your friends about my stuff Yes i take all of my own photos, i love taking pics of them, actually i think i like taking pics of them almost as mutch as i like making them

take care!

Donn,
hehe Well I'm in art too. I know that people don't realize how long it takes people to custom make things. And how much work it is. I think your dolls are totally worth $800.00+ !! I mean they are so detailed and gorgeous. After I pay up for my wedding, I'd love to have a doll made by you. *smiles* So usually when you tell people the price they don't take it so well? *imagines someone spitting out their drink and coughing for 5 minutes *
Have you photographed all 14 of your dolls? If not what did they look like? Is Tyler yours?
I wanted to show Wim the boots you bought for Tyler. I remember you had a link, but I can't find it now. Can you give it to me? He was curious, because he wears boots similair to those. I think WIm thought the boots were the easy part. hehe
What kind of puppets did you make?
My friend Aonochi already deviant watched you. (or however you say that)
So can dolls have mohawks? I've never seen one.
Have you made a doll that looked like you?
I bet you are looking forward to Corpse bride? hehe
Take care,

Hi Laurah

Artists, or people into the arts never bat an eye when i give them prices, Its just those types that cant understand what the difference is between one of my one of a kind dolls and a G.I. joe from toys-r-us those are the ones that usually do a double take.

Im really glad you think my work is worth it, congrats on your wedding, Ive only photographed The Dolls that i make for myself... (actually there is a photo of an unfinished doll that was sold in the scraps section, he doesnt look like mutch since his clothes and makeup wasnt finished) I have another doll that i made for myself just recently that i havent photoed yet, ill try and take a pic and get him posted in the next week.

And yes Tyler in mine, Hes my favorite, I could remake him easily if somone wanted a doll like him, but id never sell him

When i used to do puppetry work, i did both mechanical type puppets (a pic of one that i made is at the top of my artist bio on my webpage)

[link]

I also did muppety type puppets as well, i hope to eventually get good pics of all that stuff and get it posted

(ignore my photo at the bottom of my bio, i was so out tired that day my friend came over and took it, i need a new one, i looked like death that day "and not in a good way" )

I got tylers boots from dollheart

[link]

Tylers boots were limited editions, if you click shop, doll shoes, and then "shoes for sd10/13" and scroll down they still have a pic of them up even though they are sold out. some of the pics in the gallery on my site show afew diffrent shots where you can see his boots as well,..aside from nude shots of tyler, lol

I just added Aonochi today,..im a bit behind, and im still learning how to use DA

I would love to do a doll with a mohawk, but my heads have headcaps that are removable (so you can move or change the eyes, or so you can take off the head in case you want to change it completely or restring the doll) and a mohawk wouldnt hide the headcap seam,...

Ive never made a doll that looked like me, my friends keep bugging me to do it (only so they can put it in lewd poses im sure) LOL, I probably will eventually just for the heck of it.

And i cant wait to see the Corpse Bride!! hehe, im a big Burton fan and the Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite film of all time!!!

Take care,
Don

Donn,
So if you made a mohawked doll, you'd have to think of a whole new way to make it, huh? Sure I had to come up with something impossible. Figures. *rolls eyes* lol
I put some pictures of my Crys doll (Crys is Wim's username) on my photobucket account.
[link]
[link]
[link]
Yeah I'm sure the whole lewd poses thing would have to happen.. hehe Isn't that what friend are for? My friends go all out to embarrass me as much as possible. and Wim provokes me constantly. and wouldn't you be disapointed if they didn't do it? lol
If you ever make one, I'd love to see him! *smiles*
I love muppets too. On my live journal I was posting about Fraggle Rock and how I got to see it for the first time recently. So delightful. And The Dark Crystal Muppets are so cool. I would always bug all my friends to learn how to make muppets so we could all have one. Oh and when my friend, Wendy was little she wanted to marry one of the muppets because she thought that she could. hehe
I like the picture of you with the long hair with your dolls. Is that the one you are referring to?
Do you collect dolls and Nightmare before Christmas stuff? Wim & I just bought a really cool lamp on ebay.
[link]
We are hoping to get our own place as soon as he moves here from Holland.
I'm looking forward to seeing you post more things!

Hey Laurah,

Ive been thinking of a work-around for the mohawk, but i havent come up with any good ones yet (ill probably figure out something eventually).

Wims Doll is wonderfull i love the little boots, he did a really good job on him,.. what kind of clay did he make the face out of? is it polymerclay?

If i ever make a "me" doll ill be sure to post him, I should say when i make him,..i know i will eventually it would be a fun sculpting exercise, and my friends coud have their warped fun. Everytime my friends come over especially when my best friend Dreux is in a cheeky mood the result is always the same (doll yaoi) haha,.. "some of the stuff turns out rather beautifull" but nothing i would be allowed to post pics of on here lol

Im glad you like that pic, everyone ive showed it to seems to like it (i think you all are being nice) I was soo tired that day and every time i look at it i just see a really tired guy. I respect your artistic opinion though so ill keep it for now

That lamp is Cool! i collect the Jun Planning Nightmare toys, I have all of the charachters even the huge 25-26 inch oogie boogie, (i dont have all of the jack variants though) Ill take a pic of them.. I just saw a few pics of the JUN Planning Corpse bride figures and MAN are they Awesome!!!

take care, and i enjoy the chat!

Donn,
I actually wrote you a long email yesterday morning, and then Internet Explorer crashed and I lost it. *pouts* And I was too lazy to write it over.
I just got done watching that show Supernatural. I taped when i was out last night. Holy crap that show scared me. I closed my eyes like 5 times. I can't decided if I'm going to try watching that again. *shudders*
Anyway...I told Wim that I sent you links to his doll pictures. And after being horrified I think he was ok with it. I sent him the links of how you make your dolls and the cemetary stuff. He really liked your site photos.
He said he just asked the hobbie guy to recomend some stuff and described what he wanted to do with it. And all he can remember is it was some fast drying clay that doesn't need to be fired.
I tried to use sculpie once to try making a head. Yeah after 3 short hours I had a blob. *rolls eyes* And then a friend of mine came over and within 10 minutes made a likeness of another friend that was over. And yes, I do hate him. So that ended my sculpting career...
So this mohawk answer will come to you in a dream where you are rising a giant red panda or maybe a hedgehog while juggling squishy eyeballs. That's the way these things work.
Who made your animated icon? it's cool. I tried to make one, but it's kind of obnxious looking. I can't stand looking at it for more than 2 seconds, so I think I should redo it slower.
I looked up the Jun series. I have seen the Corpse bride ones. Everyone's been posting them on Live Journal. They look super cool.
Have you seen these?
[link]
I want to get this when Wim & I have are own place.
Hey your site should be done in 2 days. I'm so looking forward to seeing the completed site.
Here's a random picture of Wim's favorite boots.

We bought these on our first trip to Chicago together. They are cool like Tyler's.

Hi Laurah,

Sorry its taken me sooo long to get back to you, my store opened yesterday and i was kinda going crazy,..lol (but in agood way)
Ive had that happen so many times it isnt funny, my computer isnt verry user friendly and likes to crash often, so i loose stuff all the time
Sculpey is fun but to be honest with you i think its hard to sculpt with, lol, there are some peopel on here that work primarily with it and do sutch beautifull things, im in awe of them, the most i can do with it is really simple cartoony things. super sculpey and premo i think are a bit easyer to work with as far as sculpting goes,... well for me anyway.
haha i hope the solution to the mohak does come to me cause i would like to make a mohawked guy,.. i love mowhawks, i really wish they were more common, but then again i really like unusual and longer hairstyles on men,.... i acutally have a slight weakness for them to be honest with ya (sigh and dramatic flirty pose) lol

That nightmare village is awesome!, yep i cant wait till the corpse bride toys come out Jun does anice job on their toys, although the mcfarline (i think i spelled that wrong) ones look good too or at least what ive seen of them.
I love those boots, they do look like tylers, i have a pair of New Rocks that are slightly similar to those, well not that simiar but they do make me a few inches taller!! ( i like Wims better) well here a pic anyway.

Donn,
Ok this time when I deleted your message it was my fault. *grumbles*
I loved that picture of you! You look really cool. I thought only guys in the UK or Spain wore New Rocks. Did you go to Europe or get them online? Wim got his in Chicago. It was so agonizing waiting for him to put them on. It took him a full 30 minutes the first time. I actually fell asleep! And when we got back from the club, I fell asleep when he was taking them off. lol. He's much better now. It only takes him about 15 or so now. He's found some cheater ways of putting them on.
Are you going to see Corpse Bride this weekend? I'm waiting for Wim so I'll be the last American Goth to see it. It doesn't come out until November 3rd for the Netherlands. So when he comes here on October 14th, we are going to see it. Ok not THAT day, because of the whole jet-lag thing, but the next day we'll go. Then that Sunday we are going to a wedding for two of my closest friends. They've been together for 10 years. I've known them about 8 of those years. And the rest of the week can be spent however we went. (ie laying on the couch like bums)
My favorite hair is usually long straight black hair. Here's a few pictures of Wim before he started to dye his hair and shave it. I love to tease him that he's a blond. *shocked face*

[link]
[link]

You think sculpie is hard to sculpt with? My blob begs to differ. hehe So super sculpie is different from regular sculpie?
How is your store going? Hopefully you'll be able to sleep in piles of 100s in a few weeks. I hear that's way more comfortable than sleeping on an actual bed.
Your site looks really nice. I think you should add that super cool gothy shot of you. Or would that scare off "normal" people? hehe
I'm sure you'll come up with something for a mohawked guy. I've argued with my sister about Wim's hair for months now. She thinks for it to be called a "mohawk" it has to be standing up. So it bugs her. Here's a picture of a guy that Wim chats with. (from the site we met on.) He sometimes stands his mohawk up for pictures.
[link]
Wim has never stood his up. He said he has no idea how to do it. I am curious. Hehe. Maybe I should photoshop him a standing mohawk. *smiles*
Oh here's our profile.
[link]
He introduced himself because he liked my photoshop art and thought I was cute. *embarrassed*
Wow I can ramble on...
I hope your business is a great success. You are so talented!!

Hi Laurah,

Im sorry its taken me so long to write back, It was good chatting with you on Yahoo (i hope i didnt seem to distant) for some reason all of my friends are on yahoo or none of my friends are on yahoo so when i sign on i can hear crickets or i get barraged, and im bad at multitasking,..lol,..im sutch a bad and slowww typist. (sigh) i just didnt want you to think i was ignoring you or anything.

Im just painfully slow at chat

I still havent gotten to see corpse bride, i want to go with my friends and scheduling a time with them is like herding cats,.. if we havent figured out something by mid next week me and my best friend are going together and everyone else can fend for themselves. haha

I keep debating about my pic on my website, on one hand it is formal me, on the other hand theres casual me who needs a pic,.. Im sure ill figure out something maybe ill just have 2 pics or something. I dont worry too mutch about scaring anyone (after all my site does sell pretty freakyboy dolls) if my work doesnt scare them off i doubt i would haha

So far the store is going crazy, i had no idea that there would be so many people wanting my work and willing to pay for it,..im a very happy guy right now, a very busy guy as well...

take care and i hope your feeling better!

Donn

OMG! I really wish I knew how to make dolls. Gawd knows how many times I've tried. Beautiful work! Absolutely exquisite!

thank you!

And i wish i could draw and paint like you!! your sculpts are really good so you can alrady sculpt. The jointing is the only tricky thing about making dolls. (sculpting good joints is a pain in the butt)
