Reminds me of my father. He leaves in a machine of steel, cotton, rubber, and leather, and lives around mountains and street lights. This is beautiful, only I wish it was a print.

LUV this - you have made the truck look like it is absolutely one with nature.

Thank you very much! And thanks for the fave. Actually, to the truck's right, is a convenience store, as the truck is parked at the top of a concrete ramp. The power of cropping and camera angling!

Composition and textures are great, neat photo, but what I like most are the subtle golden tones since the make all fit together, I mean, the truck have sense there thanks to color.

Nice work.

and very enjoyable shot too. it seems to me so american whit this big truck and this rich field...

BitterGrapes In reply to airwings [2007-06-25 02:20:25 +0000 UTC]

I could see how you might say that. lol
In actuality, the field was just a patch of grass a few metres wide. There is a convenience store to the rightt and a busy street the left.

This truck looks as though it's having a nice day in the country, just getting some fresh air and sunshine. I read your comments and replies and know about the driveway, etc, but still, the photo itself says to me that the truck is enjoying a beautiful day.

I've ridden in many big trucks, back when I hitchhiked around the US. They have a small place of their own in my heart and memories.

Kat, you and I are gonna have to sit down and talk one day. It seems like we'd probably have a lot of great stories to share. I like that you found something you could relate it to that comes from one of your chapters. Thanks for the love!

I've felt for a long time that you and I could have some great conversations. If you ever find that you're heading to Minneapolis and have a flexible schedule (my work days and times are a bit strange), please let me know. I'd be honored to buy you a cup or two (or three...) of coffee.

You're very welcome for the love

Ok, I gotta fav this one too coz I like trucks! Would've been cool if the truck had its headlights on. Just to give a little sparkle hehe...
I know some would have preferred maybe a horse or girl on horse or something like that instead of a truck but it is nice to see a romantic shot of a big vehicle like this

I figure "why not". LOL Trucks can enjoy nature too. Thank you much for your encouragement and thanks for the faves!

I like the idea, but i reckon there is too much foreground with nothing in it. I dont think there needs to be that much grass nearer to you give the impression you're imparting. Also, going closer gives you a chance to go wider too, which could make the truck more imposing OR you could go right back and go telephoto, which would make the truck smaller in its surroundings and place more of the grass in OoF areas.

Another idea you possibly could use is to place the truck in the frame in a similar method to that employed by classic portraiture. We are already looking at it in a way that personifies it, but i probably wouldnt have understood the personification without the image title. Weather you want the image title to contribute to the image is up to you though.

I love the processing, youve got a touch when it comes to that!

Thank you Scotty. I really like this kind of comprehensive commentary. My hat goes off to you.

I named it "iron picnic" in a rush to post this before I had to leave the computer- as opposed to looking to convey the idea photographically, first. The backstory the to pic is, I had just gotten my Sigma 10-20 mm in the mail a few minutes earlier, and was taking it out for a test drive. I shot the truck from several different angles, and then got the thought to walk a distance away from it and hold the cam down by my knees and fire off a few shots to catch the tall grass in the foreground and make the truck be the interruption to the grass. This was the shot I liked the best out of those. I think I can kind of see what you're saying about too much grass and I agree. Probably, I'll end up cropping some from the bottom. Ironically, the truck itself is not sitting in grass at all. It is on sort of a concrete driveway next to a convenience store. I really like your telephoto idea, and in fact, I may just go out this evening and try that. Thanks again for the constructive critique, my friend.

Ahh, the new lens effect - anything that moves (or doesnt move) is a prime target

Id love a wide zoom, but i really wanna get a fast fiddy first. Gah, too many lenses, not enough moneh!

BitterGrapes In reply to Scotty-Dollin [2007-06-19 02:15:54 +0000 UTC]

The 50 mm is heaven. I would argue that it is a more essential (and economical) lens than a super-wide angle. And you're right about money.

Right now, I've got my eye on some ND filters and a cable release.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Scotty-Dollin In reply to BitterGrapes [2007-06-19 03:35:53 +0000 UTC]

ND grads and non grads would be killer fun. Thats definately on my to do list. As for the release, you can make one if you can use a soldering iron. I made mine, works a treat. In fact, its better than the canon one because you can add a non-momentary switch to it so you can just flick the switch, put the release down, sit back and relax. Then, when the exposure is done, you come back and flick the switch back and the exposure stops. Well wicked for those 5 minute exposures youll do with the grads.

Hey mr. moses .. what's that filter you're
using here? It looks like some clever processing

I find this work very pleasing, however I dislike
the truck in this image. It just doesn't sit well
with me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BitterGrapes In reply to KrysTantra [2007-06-16 10:11:21 +0000 UTC]

mr. KrysTantra, I honestly couldn't even remember to tell you. However if I was to hazard a guess, I would say that I used PS's "replace color" to alter the grass, maybe applied one of the P.S.'s PhotoFilter's to alter the overall tint, and applied a vignette. Also, there were some slight curve and contrast adjustments made. At this point, when it comes to postwork, I've abandoned a plugin ritual in favor of using the built in plugins and filters - and occasionally 3rd party plugs to make the pic look like what's in my mind. I highly recommend Nik Color Efx Pro.

I'm sorry you didn't like the truck in this pic. I've been kind of on a photographic truck binge all week.

Thank you, my friend. Your eyes and input are always valued.

gorgeous colors.

it sort of makes me laugh when
i look at it, because given the
peaceful, classically pretty setting,
you'd expect to see something
quite different there; an angelic
figure, something of that nature.
but instead you have this golden
light falling upon a truck, and it
looks so ironic and out of place
that i can't help laughing~

One again, the textures and colors are amazing. It's ironic thought that the truck looks brand new....but the fact that it's parked in a field makes it seem old/out of service.

BitterGrapes In reply to Jaloe [2007-06-16 16:21:01 +0000 UTC]

The power of illusion. It's actually parked in a little elevated driveway in back of a convenience store. I'm guessing it must be out of service, because I can't remember it not being there. Thanks again so much.
