Personality: Maeve is bold and free-spirited. She always thirst for adventure and keeps her eyes to the horizon. You can't keep her away from the sea for long, as she always feels a draw to the shoreline and craves to travel beyond it. She doesn't like to be pent up in a stall, and needs to be kept in a big enough enclosure that she does not feel as if she is being held captive. She has an attitude with those who claim she is tame, and makes it known to others that she will go and do as she pleases. Despite her distaste for confinement, however, everything changes when she is on a ship. The feeling of briny breezes in her mane and constantly moving forward are more than enough to make her happy. She would rather a sea-soaked wooden deck over fields and pasture beneath her hooves any day. She prides herself on her strength, agility and cunning in battle, and will only allow those she deems worthy enough to ride her. She will often test this by bucking or charging would-be riders if she feels they are green or not seasoned enough.

Backstory: Maeve was one of the original Royal Broodmares who were prized for their ability to produce Batailles. Her coat and mane were highly regarded, and her combative temperament was perfect for creating the first war steeds, at least at first. Over time, however, she became more and more difficult with her handlers. This progressed until one particular incident left a noblewoman injured when she demanded to be able to ride the mare despite warnings against it. This resulted in the Mare being decommissioned and auctioned off to the highest bidder.

She was passed around from handler to unfortunate handler, unable to be tamed by any who wished to break her. One fateful night, however, as she was being shipped to another region in Unicornia in an attempt to sell her off, the vessel was seized by a pirate lord - Draven Battlebrand - and his crew. They formed a very odd though immeasurably close relationship after she was stolen in transit. She was allowed to roam the ship as she pleased, and hired deckhands specifically to attend her needs. He recognized her free spirit, and she his, resulting in her first bonded rider. They traveled the seas for many years together, and were hardened veterans of war and sea alike until his bitter end. Upon his death, she was (to her displeasure) taken away from the sea by the royal navy, who tracked down the pirates and destroyed the ship - and brought to port for the last time. While she was able to quickly escape her captors, she was not able to travel the sea since her rider's death. Thus, she began to roam the Unicornian wildes until she found the right rider.

She spent years away from other humans, traveling for miles across the mainland and experience life as she had never truly known it. She was free, but after her rider's death, something felt missing in her life. During her time away, she briefly met with other Batailles who escaped the Mages of Durant and found herself standing in the firm belief that royalty and authority were to be despised after seeing the horrors the colts were forced to endure. She knew countless children of her own were likely sold off and abused as they had been, reminding her of her wariness towards other humans. She became close to Pi for a time, but moved on shortly after. Still, it was ultimately Pi who pointed Maeve in the right direction for her new rider! Even though Blaek Nova was new to handling and riding boucles, she found that his spirit closely matched her former rider's, and his experience in battle proved to her that he was no pushover. After a close encounter, she tested him initially by charging at him and challenging him to take her head-on, at which point she was satisfied and chose him as her next rider.
