Description A minor species idea for the #LegacyVerse

The Klurrrg (a shortened version of their original name, which has been forgotten by history) are an extragalactic, or possibly extradimensional species of bipedal crustaceans. They came to the Milky Way eons ago by accident, eager to explore the unknown using their hyper-advanced technology. When they had arrived, they could find no way to return.

With no connection to their homeworld or access to their advanced technology they had come to depend on, they devolved into barbaric space pirates. Clinging to their proud past, they tend to view every other species they encounter as too weak or unbearable to deal with. The Klurrrg roam the space ways attacking far flung colonies, leaving hardly anything of their passing, shrouding themselves in an mystery.

Typically, Klurrrg are an wild, unpredictable people reveling in acts of piracy and anarchy. Non-hostile Klurrrg will sometimes barter and deal with other species, but only if they have to so to further their own needs. Currently their activities are centered around the Xasheen Consortium and their allies, who's technology they greatly crave. Their ragtag fleets consist of stolen, salvaged or shambling vessels brimming with gunports and weapon batteries. Only very rarely will they build ships of their own design, since their age-old specifications for them require strange technology that cannot be found anywhere in the galaxy and must be built from scratch.

Around their bodies is a symbiotic mollusk that attaches to an infant Klurrrg at birth, providing a level of protection against the elements with its robust shell. Eggs from both creatures are placed next to each other and when they're born, they seek one another out. As the Klurrrg grows, so does the mollusk, developing into an iron-like hide that can absorb small arms fire.

In a nutshell they're space-ape-crab-pirates More information will come when I have said information.

Kinda, yeah. I think blue. Green would be too vivid for that structure.

As interesting as this specie design is, and although there is a generally justified reasoning for it, it seems like this is generally what one might consider a "bad specie" or "evil specie." While that isn't particularly a bad thing, black and white species, at least so far, in legacy, have been avoided, or at least downplayed, or given avenues of options for varying behaviors. Unless you have already, I'd talk more about it with Durendal, see what he thinks. Really, it should get more discussion in general.

It's not simply a matter that painting an entire people in a negative way generally isn't the best idea, depending on how symbolic the context is, but that often the species that are portrayed as a general negative are the one's that have the least amount of understanding by the more positive characters. It looks as though this specie could have a very rich history, even if they're a minor specie, and it would be a bit of a shame to not have that aspect of them brought forth in a literary sense, as protagonist like species wouldn't have access to it.

Since its in the conceptual stage, I figured I'd post it up now to get a variety of feedback. The fact that there hasn't been an overly negative faction/specie/race yet in Legacy made me want to make'em.

It's certainly convenient to have on, depending on what plot and thematic elements are trying to be portrayed, but in other instances, it can wind up backfiring, as it can sometimes conflict heavily with other elements of a setting. Sometimes it's a fine line to walk, so just keep that in mind. We'll see how this goes.
