Kind of reminds me of letting go of a close friend. To me it just seems like the person in the picture cared a lot about the bird, and is sad to release it.

A very beautiful piece. Simple, but the colours are quite strong and lovely. It's symbolic as well, and that's appealing to folk like me.
Please forgive me for writing such a long post. I really care about these types of things... I may not be crying in my seat, but it is important to consider. Unfortunately I cannot feel entirely empathetic, due to desensitization and a lack of experiencing it myself. But it is a serious issue that should be brought to light, and perhaps kept.
As a response to your description, childs are pure mainly because they lack knowledge. Not intelligence but knowledge. As we go older, our experiences shape us to transform us into who we are. And hopefully, it is quite possible that those who grow up become quite good adults. More often than not, though, children are brought up with a narrow point of view over time, possibly, and become single-minded individuals. And children can easily be as manipulated and ignorant as adults. That lack of knowledge can make them seem neutral, but they don't always know the whole picture. I was actually quite a bad person when I was a kid, and I knew some kids who were quite bad as well. But, they grew up to be better people.
On the flip side, being ignorant or without knowledge is purity. But I don't think it is, because it's still corrupt in a way. Despite that, since knowledge is something that will be received, corruption is inevitable. But even then, corruption can still have it's merits, and in some cases those who have a lot of problems are still good people. I know some brilliant folk who are quite strange people. They hang out with the wrong crowd, have the wrong attitudes about life, but they're still brilliant and very intellectual people when they sit down.
I don't know who committed the crime(s), nor do most of us. I'll just assume it's terrorism. And for those terrorists, they're either insane, or just so ignorant. And when I say "terrorist" I am not labeling any groups in particular. I am labeling anyone who is vile enough to take their time into doing this.
How to solve evil in our world? Knowledge and education. That's really it. And those who wish to remain ignorant? Well, that's their choice. I know kids haven't lived their lives yet (topic ADHD much), but to be fair, and although this is hard to say, we should measure all deaths equally, even if children are included. Because by the end of the day, they all died for who knows what reason. I am not undermining the child's death by any means as that is not my intention, but I am not undermining the other deaths that happened as well. They all had families or friends or someone they knew. But it is still a terrible shame. It is a loss that mere words cannot measure.
I think it's too early to assume why the bombings happened - that is to say to label them as "anger and senselessness" is perhaps inappropriate - because we don't even know the culprits. Call me crazy but it could easily be any type of person and any kind of motive. Nonetheless, who cares what motive it is, it is still heinous, and shouldn't really be forgiven.
Your perspective on the culprits punishment is interesting, and I agree entirely, at least in this case. If we ever find out who DID do it though, it would be nice to know why. Even if it's ridiculous and insane, still... It can help. So, to contradict what I said before, identifying who they are may be important. And who knows... Maybe the good guys might've started something. But I don't know it all, and I don't really want to say I know it all, so I'll stop here.
