Description
Lexie found herself holding her breath as Andrea, Bumblebee’s handler led the puppy out, it was her very first show and Lexie was just a bit anxious. They’d spent so much time training, taking Bumblebee to a practice ring and having their friends bring their own dogs to make it that much more difficult for their orange sable girl.
Bumblebee was one of the sweetest dogs they had at the kennel, even from a young age her gentle and loving nature shone through, more so than any puppy they’d had before. But that was just the problem, Bumblebee literally didn’t have a mean bone in her body, she loved everyone, and everything, and she was very easily distracted!
Training her to focus was like pulling teeth. It took them a month to get her going around the ring in a proper stance. Then adding a few dogs here and there to make the atmosphere as accurate as possible…it was impossible to get Bumblebee to focus then. She wanted to play with every dog. They’d work for months leading up to this moment and Lexie still wasn’t sure if her girl could pull it off.
Andrea and Bumblebee were half way around the ring. Lexie still felt worried but she was surprised to see that Bumblebee was doing pretty well. Sure she wasn’t as elegant as Jaqen, or Cherry, but she was keeping her head held high and her stride long. Lexie found herself letting out her breath as they came to a stop and waited for the judge to examine her. She was sure it hadn’t been a perfect run but Lexie was still proud, especially for Bee’s first try. She hadn’t even looked at another dog!
When Andrea led Bumblebee out of the ring when they were finished, Lexie couldn’t contain her joy. She ruffled the top of Bee’s head affectionately and grinned at Ben who had followed her over, “Good Girl Bee, I knew you could do it!”
She heard Ben chuckling behind her but ignored him, her doubts didn’t matter anymore, Bee had done so well and she’d only improve with age.
“Let’s collect the other dogs and go explore some more of the island, Bumblebee’s definitely earned it!”
So with that they headed out of the show area.

Outside, behind the Indoor Venue they found a few of the other guests who must have had the same idea. There were tons of puppies everywhere, playing rough and tumble in the grass.
Bumblebee looked like she wanted nothing more than to be playing with the others, however she stayed by Lexie’s feet, just watching the excitement.
Lexie grinned, apparently all the training had made an impact, she leaned down and took off Bee’s leash. “Go on,” she said nudging Bumblebee “Time to play.”
Bumblebee didn’t need any more encouragement; she bounded forward and happily greeted the other dogs. Bee and the other puppies got along perfectly.
Cherry wandered away to take refuge from the sun under some palm trees, where a gorgeous silver grey abstract was already resting. Lexie didn’t blame Cherry or the other dog, she really didn’t know how the puppies could be playing in this heat.
The island was beautiful but gosh was it ever hot!
Ben cleared his throat “I’m going to take Petey and Jaqen back to the cabin and get our things ready for camping, if that’s okay with you?”
“Sounds perfect!” Lexie said, “I’ll bring the girls after Bee’s had a chance to play.”
Lexie watched as Ben walked away and then headed towards Cherry and the silver grey whose handler she recognized from another event, to chat for a while.

Story was a bit shorter than I wanted it to be, and I'm not overly happy with the image, I just couldn't get the sizing right and I know the building looks off but I was just getting frustrated so decided to quit before I ended up scrapping the whole thing.
