Description Deep rumbles reverberate in my bones,
my heart,
and cause the ground to tremble.
Heavy blue,
gray
thunderheads press closer,
an impenetrable ceiling
threatening to collapse under its own weight.
In the sliver of sky
still fighting valiantly
against the inevitable storm,
the last rays of fire
glare into my face,
hopeful they still have a chance
to escape even though they know
they have no choice
but to submit,
to be extinguished,
to be replaced by despair.
Maybe I could be crushed too.
Maybe then
I'd be of some use
as nourishment for the earth.
The sooner darkness engulfs the world,
me,
the sooner the rain can wash everything,
me,
away.
