This feels so light and airy! I'd like to walk into the scene.

why fail, it is very nice!
huh, as for the messy style...
well, i think, it is important to choose the right brush. here (if you download, you may see it) i took the one that reminds of oil brush; so the painting will resemble an oil painting as well.
next, you should decide about the lineart. Here I hade none, but it can be different. Still, if you want a 'messy' painting, the lines should correlate! I mean, try to make them rougher. (as an example here: [link] - lineart is done with the mouse and partly coinside with the shadows)
as for the process, i made several layers. The background is the colour of the sky; the next is clouds and far away mountains. The next is the main layer of this slope's colours: i put rather big stains and stripes of colour there. Then I painted the trees - first, their branches, and then the leaves. This is the part when the painting begins to 'live'. As you can see, I didn't go into detailes, but i mixed several undertones of the dark green and yellowish for the sunlit side.
Finally, I made another layer of the grass where I made some details of the nearby stones and flowers and hid all the empty spaces and ugly edges
What is also important, it's the way you put the strokes. Here I was NOT careful at all - i just threw them around without much care of the accuracy etc. If i didn't like anything, i just used the eraser and corrected the shape.
All in all, this is how it came to life. Hope, it will help
btw, when i start another landscape of the kind, i can do a tutorial
