Okay, let's try this again, seeing as my sexy version apparently violated dA's policy standards on portraying fictional teenagers (yeah stupid, I know). Here's more information on the policy that was apparently violated, just so nobody else makes the same mistake I did: FAQ #248: Are there restrictions on art using children or teenagers (fictional or otherwise)?

So the SJWs are foaming at the mouth again. Time to piss them off.

The AWESOME J. Scott Campbell (account here: j-scott-campbell.deviantart.co… ) recently did a cover and a variant for the upcoming Invincible Iron Man comic. Unfortunately, like with the whole #CHANGETHECOVER controversy back in March 2015 (my response here: Batgirl #41 Variant Extreme ), people bitched and moaned about how the variant somehow "sexualized" Riri, which resulted in Marvel pulling the variant. Read more about the profound stupidity here: www.theguardian.com/books/2016…

Okay, SEVERAL things wrong with this argument…

First, more skin showing DOES NOT automatically make something sexual in nature. But even if it were intended to be sexual, it ties into my next point…

Second, what's considered to be "sexy" is inherently subjective. What makes another weak in the knees may not even phase another person. It's all up to interpretation.

Third, creating sexy versions of younger fictional female characters is NOTHING new, especially for this artist. Campbell has an entire series "Fairy Tale Fantasies" dedicated to this here: j-scott-campbell.deviantart.co… This includes characters like Dorothy Gale (originally 12), Ariel (originally 16, along with many other Disney Princesses), Wendy from Peter Pan (originally 12/13), and Alice from Alice in Wonderland (originally 7). Hell, do an image search "sexy Disney princesses" on Google to see more examples. These are fine, yet THIS caused an uproar?

Fourth, people with mature features displaying a form of eroticism (fictional or real) are generally assumed to be above the age of consent, which varies between 13 to 18 depending on where you are in the world.

Finally, and most importantly, IT'S A FUCKING DRAWING! Which is FICTION! Meaning NO ACTUAL TEENAGERS are being exploited here! Concepts and abstract ideas can't do anything unless they're put into real-world practice. And no, portraying them in media DOES NOT count.

My god! Whenever my faith in humanity takes a few steps forward, it's bullshit like this that makes it take a giant leap backwards.

So I hope you enjoy this little "fuck you" to the SJWs.

Okay, let's try this again, before Big Brother takes this drawing to room 101.

I came to DeviantArt because I thought that this was the last refuge of free speech and expression left in social media (besides Tumblr, of course, but I'm sure that's about to change), but this is just ridiculous.

I mean, I agree with all of your arguments (except the second one; beauty isn't really relative. Men are visually attracted to a healthy body weight, youth, symmetrical and soft features, because these are cues of fertility. Just some evolutionary biology there)...

But getting back to the point. Notice I just disagreed with your second argument, but never felt inclined to report or flag the artwork. It's sad that we live in a world where people censor before getting to know what the opposition is all about. That is completely ridiculous.

That said, I would normally encourage you to keep drawing "triggering images" (Like a white Motoko Kusanagi for those pissed at the new Ghost in The Shell), but I don't want your account taken down for having too many strikes.

Perhaps this is a sign that we need to look for a new social media platform, just in case Big Brother start acting like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.

Thanks for the critique! I mean, I get the child pornography law include drawings and fictional depictions of minors, so I can't fault dA for obeying a stupid law.

However, the policy that forbids aging the characters unless they grow within their original franchises? THAT is ridiculous! This drawing should be fine, seeing as she's more clothed. Here's more information on dA's policy: FAQ #248: Are there restrictions on art using children or teenagers (fictional or otherwise)?

And don't worry. I don't plan on stopping with the triggering art.

I will admit I don't really care for Riri Williams, but it's mainly because of how she's written.  The way she was written (haven't kept up) made her seem more like a potential villain than a hero in training.  However other than that I like the idea of a new character taking up the armor but giving it her own design and with a new name.  I just wish they gave her to better writers.

Same. I'm not really caught up on her myself. I just hate it when the SJWs try to dictate how we should express art.

I like Riri Williams aka Ironheart.

I know not many people due but I give her a chance.

I wish many people didn't have to be so harsh, because her first few volumes were good.

Its sad that her co-creater, Brian Michael Bendis, has to leave Marvel for DC Comics.

I was I can get to see her in the future in Comics.

It was originally a sexy version where she was wearing nothing but a bikini bottom. Unfortunately, it violated dA's policy on depicting fictional teenagers (stupid, I know).

The SJW's are the new Moral Majority. It's funny how these kind of people went from protesting against the likes of Jerry Falwell to becoming no different from him, basically picking up from where he left off.

I'm not familiar with Jerry Falwell, but yes, a lot of the SJWs have become just as bad as the people the despised, if not worse.

"the sjw's are trying to make pedophilia acceptable by allowing this art!!!"
"the sjw's are trying to censor and destroy freedom of expression by banning this art!!!"

it's really not a black and white issue. personally, i don't think there's anything wrong with drawing a sexy teenager. any man who claims to have never found a girl under 18 remotely attractive is either a liar or simply not attracted to the female figure whatsoever. now before you come at me with torches and pitchforks, i am not saying that statutory rape or predatory behavior is acceptable, and quite frankly it's sad that i have to include this as a disclaimer.

the restraints put on artistic freedom and the public journal call-outs of individuals who drew minors in suggestive poses is nothing short of hysteria and fearmongering.

BrandonScottPilcher [2016-11-04 23:46:38 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, a lot of teenagers that age are already pretty horny, so I don't believe that Riri would necessarily be a sexual naif anyway. On the other hand I did think the original cover gave her a rather adult-looking anatomy (e.g. not lanky enough, developed breasts, etc.), but maybe he didn't know the character was supposed to be a teen.

brentcherry In reply to BrandonScottPilcher [2016-11-05 02:01:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. 15 is hardly a minor, and even legal depending on where you are in the world. In fact, it the prime age of transitioning to adulthood, a.k.a. "coming of age".

Well, I posted the sexy version earlier, but that was in violation of their policy on depicting fictional minors (which is BEYOND stupid) here: FAQ #248: Are there restrictions on art using children or teenagers (fictional or otherwise)? However, it's still available through my Patreon, if you want to get it.

The middle finger is for the people who complained about Riri being "sexualized".

Caesar9999 In reply to brentcherry [2016-11-02 23:32:43 +0000 UTC]

Aren't there already a lot of sexualised female fictional minors in Deviantart? I mean it'd be as if they don't know about there being things like anime.

Then again I don't think most people know things regarding Videogames, Anime/Manga, Comicbooks etc other than stuff for them to make fun of without actually playing/reading/watching most of it unless it's in a live-action version or something
