Description FULL VIEW, PLEASE!

More scraps of my face. I just HAD to share my latest and greatest eBay find: an American M1 helmet from 1955.
It's in beautiful condition and as you can see, made for a head much larger than my own.

I purchased WWII-replica paratrooper netting to go over it so now it looks WWII-esque now.

Wow, my hair looks really red in contrast with the green helmet...

Thanks! It is actually a Korean War era helmet, however.

no ma'am, wrong color and the straps are the last straps the US made for their m-1's which came around late in the vietnam war. plus there should be a number stamped into the steel in the helmet that number will let you know if it was a "hand-me-down" shell

The steel pot actually has no designations on it, but the liner is clearly stamped 1955. The straps are not original, I agree, as the color is the more jungle green used in Vietnam, so it is indeed a "mash up" of different things.

I received it out of an estate sale and unfortunately don't have any other solid info aside from that, but the steel pot may be Vietnam-era. I rarely see any imagery of bare helmets without their foliage covers though, but the green hue looks more accurately to be Vietnam. It came with a camo cover that is from the very late 70s/early 80s when the more modern camo was coming into use.

alot of time you will not see the stamp inside the shell unless you are looking for it, but it should be there. the camo cover should have a DLA number on one of the 6 tongues that reads "DLA-100-" and the next 2 numbers are the year it was made, but that suggests it was a nam pot that was reissued i have 2 with the same color paint, same straps, and cover that were reissued in the 80's just before the pasgt helmet came into play, now the liner, if it is U.S. korean war era then it will have a star of david pattern in the crown and green webbing, however ive never known a U.S. liner from that era to be dated like that, if its U.S. it will have a stamp in the crown that will tell you the maker, but your helmet looks to have a nice history to it and it is very possible that it is pre vietnam but you'd have to find that number to be sure but with the paint color it is displaying its vietnam glory and is very beautiful.

I did a thorough check of the steel pot but didn't find anything. It is possible I missed it, however. The cover is in great condition but also turns up without any sort of numbering or designation. The liner does indeed have green webbing and the leather band that is stamped with the date is quite worn. It has definitely seen some sweating and action. To me, the liner certainly seems older than the steel pot. Unfortunately it is currently tucked away in California, otherwise I would inspect it some more.

I know that European countries re-used and produced M-1 steel pots well into the 80s/90s I believe. I have another one that I think is Hungarian - steel is painted more of the drab green of WWII European theater and the liner has a leather/rubber webbing sling. Totally different chin strap (to be expected) and more gray. Definitely not the jungle green palette that the one pictured here is.

But hey, I am just an amateur collector and vintage military enthusiast always looking to know more. I thank you for your input!

yeah that would be nato wanting a standardization and i believe it is U.S. because i have never seen an other country with a clone have that color of m1 unless its a repaint, and hungarian? nice i have a belgian abl helmet which is an other clone with a 1966 liner made of a pvc material but if it was the older style it would be an almost exact match to a korean m1 liner because they were amazing at cloning helmets though i must admit the shape of the pot is slightly different, but yeah helmets are my thing and its all ive ever been good with so i do my best to pass my knowledge to others

Thanks! It definitely is an iconic item/image of vintage military. I love the look of the M-1 much more than the Kevlar...
