Description Wanted to post this today since today is the actual date of our anniversary I made this drawing a few weeks ago to have put on a button to wear for our Disney World trip last week and got so many compliments!! This is what it ended up looking like here:

I tried my best to mimic Disney style (was a major pain in the butt to get the eyes right and I hate drawing glasses!!) and referenced the poses off of the scene from Aladdin after the "A Whole New World" song where Jasmine leans on him and he looks up to the side.

If you wanna get a custom button made to wear to Disney World please consider using Crowley Castle, you can visit her awesome etsy shop (which has all kinds of awesome buttons she designed!) here: www.etsy.com/shop/CrowleyCastl… and you can commission me for a custom portrait to get put on one if you can't draw or just don't feel like doing it
Basically she makes her own designs based on the actual Disney freebie pins that you get at the front desk of the parks/resorts if you're celebrating a birthday, honeymoon, anniversary, etc! I got two made up of these for me and James to wear and also got that cute Meeko one that says "eat all the food!" and a Lady and the Tramp one that says with different wording "I'm here for the food!" but I think someone stole it off my backpack from me the first day of our trip, barely got to enjoy it

Also on a side note, I'll be posting a ton of stuff this week, I made 4 custom painted and sewn Mickey ear hats to wear to Disney and I'll be selling two of the ones I'm less attached to because Disney gutted our wallets and bank account I'll also be posting pictures of the custom painted Tangled shoes I made and two custom magic bands I painted for each of us to wear to the parks. On the bright side the hubs got a job again and starts Monday! It's a little bit of a hit in pay from his last job but he can do sales so I'm sure he'll make up for what he's lacking cause he's a really good salesman Won't be so strapped for money soon and can finally start saving for a home I'm also planning to re-set up my etsy shop and sell custom Disney garb to wear to the parks to save for our home and more Disney trips in the future

Yay, Deviation! I'm a big disney nut myself so I have to say I think the style came out very well.  Very disney-ish, similar to the disney princess 2d box art, and very cool turning it into a button.  Maybe I should have a button made for my 150th trip since I've gone over 100 times to D-land and there was no button for it  Anyway, congratulations to both of you on your anniversary. Hope you had a wonderful trip and what an awesome way to celebrate it.  Glad you finally got a slice of happiness.  Good luck and the hope for many more to come!

Holy cow, 150 times?! I've probably been there around 15-20 times not anywhere near 100 And thank you very much! I referenced alot of the princess art on google for figure out how to line and shade the piece Yes we had a really good time, I felt really good, that Florida sun and Disney magic combined was like a drug, I just want to go back and stay forever!

Suber cute! I love how you did the eyes, and you totally nailed that soft shaded Disney style. Happy Anniversary!

Thank you John! Can't tell you how many attempts I made and how many times I had to tweak it, I still feel like it's not close enough but I had to settle with where it was in order to get the button shipped here in time!

Happy Anniversary Brittney! It's already been two years? Wow...
Your Disney imitation style is actually quite good! I love how soft it looks! Keep up the good work and I hope you have a safe trip!

BrittyDee In reply to Micks221 [2016-03-09 05:28:41 +0000 UTC]

Yeah crazy how fast it went! And thank you! The biggest things I noticed with the style were 1. colored lineart for each individual colored part being a shade darker than what it encased, like brown hair had dark brown lines, 2. big almond shaped curved eyes, and 3. soft shading. I couldn't pick up on much else so I tried my hardest to push those three things to get it across! And I'm actually back and safe, I got home Sunday We went from Feb 29th-March 6th Too expensive to stay on our anniversary unfortunately

This is a really cool idea. I love the pic. May have to do something like this for my wife next year. Love that Beast Boy was snuck in there as well.

Also congrats on 2 years. We had our 17th last Sunday. There's been at least 2 good ones in there somewhere.

On a side note, even though you didn't get to enjoy one of your buttons for long, I'm sure somebody somewhere thanks you for that.

Thanks, I just had to put him in there I wear that button every day and have been since I was 11, so 13 years! Even wore it on my wedding dress under the embellishment Awh she'd love that, I know when my husband gets me something custom made or makes it himself I'm thrilled ^^ And holy cow 17 years! Congratulations!! That's most of my life Yeah probably some poopy head stole it off of my backpack :/ I never heard it hit the floor (has a very distinct loud metal noise!) so I don't think I dropped it, I'm almost positive someone took it off and kept it -_-

Super cute! I immediately recognized the Aladdin scene before even reading your description, so I think you nailed the execution. Congrats on your two year anniversary! We hit 8 this year!   But I'm not sure my hubs would be down with wearing a button that announced it (he's not really the creative type).

I'm glad you recognized it, haha! And congrats to you too, 8 years is huge! Awh he wouldn't wear one? James is a good sport, I got him to wear a hat I painted for him even though he really didn't wanna He only wore it for one of the five park days though! And hey, just tell him it'll help him get free food Guys love food! We got two free desserts on our trip for sporting these and even got a few free fast passes to get on rides and in front of the line to meet some characters!!

heyaustine In reply to BrittyDee [2016-03-09 01:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Omg. Who can turn down free stuff?! I bet if I really sold it to him, we could totally own and rock some buttons. We've definitely also hit that stage in our lives where almost zero craps are given about other peoples' opinions of us. (Plus I could tell him he might get free beer out of it, especially if the server is an empathetic male trying to help another bro out by numbing the pain of having to wear a button his wife made, haha). I'm looking forward to seeing the other stuff you made, too.

Where did you guys stay? Any recommendations?

Apologies in advance for the novel! But it's good info as far as the Disney hotels go that I had to learn the hard way and wish someone told me

I mean it's not a guarantee you'll get free things with the buttons but it's the only chance you have at any freebies! They give out buttons for free if you tell them you're celebrating something too, they gave us anniversary buttons, I was covered in buttons And we stayed at the Pop Century resort in Disney, cheapest one alongside the All Star and one other I can't remember. But seriously, if you buy the cheap one or the nicer expensive ones, your room is the same, it's just a very average room, the only difference it what it looks like on the outside so you're better off going for the cheapest. I stayed with my family in a very expensive one almost ten yrs ago and it was just the same as the cheap room, same size and everything. You're basically paying to be able to use their free transportation to the parks and airport with an average room! We went to Disney on our honeymoon as well and stayed in a cheaper hotel outside of Disney but it ended up costing the same after the taxis each way, $20 going, $20 coming home, (so you could pay that extra $40 and stay in a Disney resort then you're closer and don't pay for transportation) some guy charged us $70 to get to the hotel from the airport by "going the wrong way" then going to the wrong hotel and still charged us for his mistakes and he got pissed we didn't tip him (it should have only been $40-45, so we had to pay a buttload extra and missed out on a valuable 30 mins of vacation) and he left us in the pouring rain to take out our own luggage, when they're supposed to take it out of the trunk for you :/ You don't have to deal with any of that nonsense when you use Disney's transportation, just may have to wait a little for a new bus if there are too many people going to your hotel after the parks. Or figure out which ones are close to each other, like the Animation and Pop resorts were connected but the Animation one was new and very pricey (although aside from decoration is identical to the Pop one) so less people used their buses. So some nights the line was so full for the Pop resort bus after going to a park you'd probably be sitting for an hour waiting just to get on, so we'd just go on the line for the Animation resort because it was so expensive that less people stayed there and the line was short so we'd just have to walk a little extra but it beat standing there for an hour on your sore feet! You'd be in your room in 30 mins instead of maybe an hr and a half.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write all that! I'm one of those people that goes a little crazy on the research and reviews and trying to figure out the "best" way to do things in advance, so this is super helpful. It makes sense to be aware of what other hotels are near the one we would potentially stay at in case we need to pick another shuttle and just walk the rest of the way. And considering cab/uber fare prices when selecting accommodations based on the price per night makes sense. I have no idea when we would actually go to Disney (we have a 3 year old and he's too young to survive a whole day in an amusement park), but I'll keep this stuff in mind! Glad to hear you guys had lots of fun, I'm excited to go there as an adult and see what grown-up attractions they have!

BrittyDee In reply to heyaustine [2016-03-09 23:55:38 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome, I was hoping it wouldn't annoy you Glad you found it valuable info! Yeah most younger kids can't handle it for more than half a day! And it's like what do you choose, daytime hours so they're awake and can enjoy the parades, or do you go late afternoon and night for the fireworks? Getting into the parks the second it opens will get you on more rides and quicker, the later you come in, the longer the waits, and the less rides you can enjoy. If you stay in the resorts take advantage of their website and book your fast passes for the parks, it will literally save hours of waiting on lines (and you'll feel like a celebrity getting to cut a giant line )! For adults Disney Springs (aka Downtown Disney) is pretty awesome, they have bars and karaoke and it doesn't cost park admission, it's free if you're not buying souvenirs/food and just wanna walk around. It's kind of like a boardwalk and you have a gorgeous view of the water almost everywhere you go. But I mean they have nice restaurants and shopping too if you can't do those things with your son, it's got alot of variety there They have a rainforest and a dinosaur themed restaurant in Disney Springs that he'd probably go bonkers over! It's constantly changing in Disney, they're actually going to have night hours at Animal Kingdom pretty soon! They're adding a light show next month (fireworks would disturb their animals) called Rivers of Light that looks amazing! Literally missed it by a few weeks, I'm so sad D: They're also adding Pandora from the Avatar movie with the floating rocks and glowing ground sometime between late 2016-2017, and they're adding Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land to Hollywood Studios soon. If you end up waiting til he's old enough to handle a longer day and he'll be able to enjoy all this cool new stuff anyways There was so much construction going on when I went last week in all the parks, it was kind of annoying cause it disturbed the "magic"

Hahaha, omg, I'd probably think the same thing. "UGH. I CAN'T SEE CINDERELLA'S CASTLE WITH ALL THESE SCAFFOLDINGS EVERYWHERE." That's incredible that they're adding so many huge things! I think the coolest thing I saw was for one of their major birthdays/anniversaries, all of Cinderella's castle was constructed to look like a giant cake covered in frosting and decorations, haha. The boardwalk sounds amazing, I love that kind of stuff, and I'm sure they made it awesome because it's Disney (they seem to spare no expense on anything; gotta keep those parents sane so they want to come back, after all! ). Karaoke is totally my jam, though I prefer it "Korean (Asian?)-style" where you get your own individual room for you and your friends. WAY more fun! Thanks for the tip on the resort fast passes, I'll tuck that one away to keep in mind. We're thinking maybe when he's 6 or 7 he can bring a friend and they can go nuts together. It may sound lame, but I'm most excited to see the architecture and check out the exclusive art prints and souvenirs in the shops, lol! I remember being underwhelmed by the rides after waiting for so long to go on them. We have an anniversary coming up in April, maybe I'll try making a little drawing or painting with both of us (he got a solo portrait painting for Valentine's day, mostly because I'm awful at drawing guys, lololol). Yours sure is cute and inspiring!

BrittyDee In reply to heyaustine [2016-03-10 01:21:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah there were always cranes around the castle when I've gone! The most construction was going on in Disney Springs but I think it's expected to be done before summer this year when there's more people. Winter is when they do most of the construction cause there's less visitors (and it's also cheaper to stay during winter and less intense heat!). And I think I've seen pics of the cake castle before, so cool! They do a light show ON the castle now and it's sooo cool! If you have the chance look at it on YouTube, it's called "Celebrate the Magic", it'll blow you away! They have a massive projection go onto the castle and they make the castle look like it's moving and the bricks are popping out and it goes with scenes from their movies and music... I cry every time I think it's just special cause it was the last thing I got to do in Disney on our honeymoon and it was like after this our life starts together! Yes oh my goodness the architecture is the biggest thing, it's like everything is custom made and painted, I think that's what makes the parks so "magical" cause it's literally everything hand crafted and you won't see anywhere else. It appeals to us as artists I'm sure! And that would be a cute gift for your husband! Make sure you post it, I'd love to see it And thank you!!

I will if I end up making it! My current to-do is something son-oriented since March is Hemophilia Awareness Month and our boy has it. I figured drawing something would be a fun way to spread awareness!

PS: I'm so glad I'm not the only person here that writes in novels without ACTUALLY writing a novel, haha

I'm sorry to hear about that with your son Well you just made me aware of it cause I had no idea! I should do some research about that. And yes I write novels that aren't novels too

No need to be sorry! Of all the genetic disorders someone could get, we consider this one extremely manageable and often forget he has it. In a nutshell, he's missing one of 13 blood clotting proteins ("factors"), so he has difficulty stopping bleeds without the aid of synthetic factor (given intravenously via injection). It doesn't stop him from being super active or happy, so if that's the tradeoff, I'll take it. If you're truly interested in learning more, I can note you and talk your ear off. (otherwise consider yourself "aware," I won't bore you with the scientific details)

I totally mailed the project in and just made a typographic gif in Photoshop, lololol. Less time consuming and more shareable.

ANYWAY. I think I've hijacked enough of this post! Keep up the fab work, can't wait to see you post your other stuff!

And thank you, we got back Sunday though We went a week earlier cause the hotel stay was cheaper, the closer to spring break the more expensive (and crowded). We had a really good time, just exhausted! We had a nice day today visiting a bird sanctuary and having a nice dinner on the bay
