Grief. Death of a home,Β fall of another home. Rushed departure, final goodbye.
Fire. Twisted metal and rubble. Crushing, burning pain. Flickering light.
Darkness. Hand holding hand, pulling, fleeing.
Falling. Flying.
I noticed on maybe the fifteth rewatch of the scenes with Optimus in the cavern that his right pauldron had been totally torn off, Primus

I love this.Β Especially since Smokescreen would go to all kinds of extremes for Optimus.Β One could almost interpret this as Smokescreen's ascendance to primehood, but that never happened because that's not in Smokescreen's character.Β Rather, Smokescreen would lift Optimus up with him.Β I'm done being corny now.Β

I saw a couple of Youtube people going "blahhh smokey was screwing around on the throne in darkmount so he's not worthy of primehood" and I was like "just let him be a dumb kid for a bit, okay, he's had enough to chew on"

Exactly!Β Especially since I'm sure Orion would've had one or two childish moments himself without the Matrix, given the chance.Β I've always felt that the Matrix kind of weighs down its bearers with all the wisdom it contains.Β Arcee mentions that "primes are built [to be stoic]", so I bet that if Smokey got the Matrix he would've been just as serious as Optimus, especially given the way he would have received it.Β
Also, Smokescreen being silly on the throne is one of the highlights of the movie, in my opinion.Β

And need I point out that the original Thirteen included Amalgamous the Shifter, who was basically a lovable, shape-shifting, hooligan prankster with a spark of gold according to the TF wiki. And the wiki even says the Phase Shifter was Amalgamous's item, so I see more than a few connections there....

Indeed. Have to feel for Smokescreen too, he had to sit and watch as his hero slowly dies, unable or prevented from doing anything to help him. Good thing everything turned out all right in the end!

I ended up rewatching the scenes with Optimus in the cavern several times to draw the injuries he'd sustained. It got worse every time. Feels indeed.
