"Germany?" Ben had just finished mucking out Shiraz' stall for the evening when his father came by to check up on the pair. "Yes, there's a grade one turf race set on two thousand four hundred metres over there in a few weeks." James replied, crossing his arms loosely over his chest as he watched his son fill a hay net before continuing. "He's placed well on the distance before, even then he only just lost the cup by a nose last year. And that's just over three thousand metres." The colt had just run in his first race in a while, but that didn't seem to bother him too much after winning the turf Canadian group two Play The King Stakes. They were still in Canada, allowing the colt to settle before moving on once again. Ben nodded, pursing his lips briefly as he hung the hay net in the corner of the stall. "Well, I'm keen." He added, brushing off the stray strands of hay that had fallen onto his shirt. "I'm sure Shiraz is keen to stretch his legs again as well." He joked as he looked back over at his father with a cheeky grin. James could only roll his eyes and shake his head as a smile tugged at the corner of his lips, watching Ben wander off to collect the colt from his strapper, Spencer to bring him in for the night.

The weeks passed, and it was race day for the Deutsches Derby. The crew had arrived a week before the race to get Shiraz into training in order for him to prepare for the race ahead of him. The horses were in the mounting yards, there weren't many familiar faces at this race. It was a whole different country after all. There was an American filly entered however, quite the looker she was with the bloodmarks against her grey coat.She went by the name of WSA Check Yes Juliet, raced by Windswept Acres. Ben had raced with Shiraz at Windswept Acres once before in a race hosted by them. Another horse in the yards was a local German runner by the name of WBS Dark Story. A gorgeous seal bay colt, proving himself nicely on both the turf and dirt. The two had less experience than what RSS Hot Shot had, but they were surely proving better than how the colt had started out. The two were going to be great competitors in the race ahead.

Soon enough, it was time to mount the horses and head out to the track. Shiraz was being his typical self, but only to also be giving Spencer a bit of a hard time. "He's pretty fired up today. Let's hope all that training pays off." Spence teased, attempting to settle the colt as Ben wandered over. Ben tightened up his helmet before mounting the bay's back. "I would hope so. He hasn't been on a distance similar to this since December." Ben added in reply, getting himself into position. He slipped his feet into the stirrups and took hold of the reins as they were led out to the track. Spencer unclipped the leadrope, rubbing the colt's forelock before looking up to Ben. "Good luck out there, you two!" The blonde cheered as the duo cantered towards the starting gates.
