The arena spotlights all swung around in unison, a thumping rock beat sounded on the speakers and the video screens high in the stadium showed Karen Carlson’s picture. Several blue spotlights converged on the boxer entry area and the arena instantly filled with screams and cheers, as if Germany’s home fighter had just appeared.

From the darkness at the edge of the arena, two figures appeared and stepped into the blue-tinged light. Karen Carlson wore a leopard look robe and hopped lightly on her toes as she moved forward with her mother and coach Kelly Carlson close behind her waving to the fans. The hood of Karen's robe covered her face, hiding her intense focused glare until a fan in the front row her reached out to her to give her a friendly touch. Karen lightly tapped the fan's outstretched hand with her glove to show her appreciation for the support, especially as she wasn’t in her home country.

Kelly’s eyes widened as she saw almost the whole crowd cheering for her daughter's arrival. It made her heart burn with happiness to see them supporting Karen ... even though the cold blue light signified that she was on her way to the blue visitor's corner.

It was a proud moment for Kelly, whose own boxing career had never taken her to a packed arena for a lavish production like this.
