I feel the Chosen One became more of an albatross for him within the context of Revenge of the Sith. The questionable and opposing objectives given to him are maddening. If he could have spoken to someone outside the Order and the Chancellor's office it might have made a difference. Of course there's also the nightmares he had in the past and in the present.
Twice in the same two different characters refer to another as too dangerous to live and ironically he is present at both events as is Palpatine though he attacks the unarmed Dooku in the first while attacking the armed Windu in the latter. Mainly this is the first movie to really put the Jedi and their Order in a darker context as they have throughout the Clone Wars had to do things that took them to a place where they have rarely gone. Further the Order 66 was the insidious twist that put them in the crosshairs of their own soldiers and so you see exactly how vulnerable he is to being turned against the Order.
What he had implored to Windu before cutting off his hand was logical enough but Windu felt that Palpatine already controlled too much for the logical course to do what it was meant to do so he decides to execute the Sith Lord who was elected head of state. It is a dark thing that a Jedi Master decides to execute a leader even when that leader is a Sith Lord. However this action further cements Anakin's diminishing faith in the Jedi and the Jedi Order. The Sith Lord further suggests that the Masters' 'failure' to assassinate him will result in a wider retaliation - again a logical if not paranoid conclusion - so what follows Order 66.
However from what I read in the Commando novel titled Order 66 - something called Order 65 would have turned the clones against Palpatine. So the twists of history are reduced to a phrase - how vital words are to the flow of events. Essentially the darkest moments escalate further and further until Anakin and Vader are truly one thus the same - it would take years before he would gamble eliminating his Sith Master for good.
Misread prophecies are a dangerous thing to tie to a person who is being pulled in a thousand directions at once because eventually what's left is someone who would rather be anything than other a Chosen One, a Jedi Knight with aspirations of being a Master, a father/husband in secret, and ultimately to live his life on his own terms.
My rant aside - I say this has a rather life like realism to it - strong in the arts of the Force are you.
