Get out of my head! How could you portray my ideas so precisely?
Either toy are a telepath or... nope, there is no other explanation. Now, what happens here is that I have a fanfic in mind in which Twilight lives in a similar environment taking care of a few children. Crazy, but what fanfiction isn´t?

Haha, I guess two great minds think alike eh?! Yeah, I like to envision places such as this and do my best to portray em as best as I can. And fanfics can definitely be crazy... some of them over the top crazy at times! XD I don't read too much of em, but when I do, I like to read the craziest one's I can find, it can offer quite a bit of food for thought when you're done reading some of em! ^^

Yeah, this took me quite awhile to do. It took me about three days to finish. I'm not sure how many hours exactly it took me, but it's definitely over 8 hours for sure, could be as much as 12 possibly. It takes me forever to do stuff because I'm still not use to using Photoshop yet, otherwise I'd have finished this earlier... much earlier! XD

I like to keep myself busy, makes time go by a bit faster that way! ^^ And yeah, that's about the way it goes for me as well with linework... though to be honest, I can spend quite awhile on it simply trying to find a good idea of what the heck I should draw! I never really plan on what I'll be drawing, I just let it come naturally and see what happens. Shading... from what I've found out is a learned skill from trial and error. You can learn all there is about shading/lighting and never see improvement until you practice the heck out of it. I still haven't figured it out quite yet, and it can be one of the most frustrating parts of the whole painting or drawing, but in the end I find it the most rewarding.
Photoshop... is a toughie. XD I am actually using the $10 a month plan from Adobe's Creative Cloud thing, that way I don't have to fork over $600 for CS6! I find doing it this way is a bit easier on my pocket, and allows me to practice my art using an industry professional program. It's hard to use at first, but I think that given time I should get more comfortable, and hopefully my art will improve with the cool painting features that PS has to offer! ^^

Yeah, shading is definitely a hard thing to do at times, and using your eye to teach you is one of the best ways to learn how light works. Reading is great too, it allows us to make sense of what our eye's are seeing, thus we can increase in learning and understanding things that we didn't before.
I use to think that using digital programs would make making art easier myself... then when I first used it I too failed terribly! XD It's not as easy as it seems, in fact from my own personal experience, and from many others, you'll need to know how to draw and even paint traditionally to really get the hang of digital painting. The only thing that digital really beats traditional painting is that I don't have to wait for my painting to dry if I want to fix something, I can just paint right over it and keep trying until I get it right.
We all have our strength's and weaknesses, it's finding out what those are that can strengthen what ya like to do. I love both traditional and digital art, neither are easy to master, but given time you'll always get better the more you practice!

Yeah, I do the same thing, mostly because my dog has black fur, and trying to shade black can be a bit difficult to really do well... at least for me anyway! XD I think I can give ya a bit of advice on how to paint a night scene, I've done quite a few of em and have studied a bit on how to do paint em. When you're working with a night scene it's important to remember that first of all the night sky is never truly black, it is really a dark blue with sometimes a bit of purple added in. Sometimes depending on what the lighting situations are you can add in some green and yellow, but I prefer to work with blue and purple mostly.
Remember where your light source is, and know that it will probably have a light bluish tint to it, because the night sky causes the earth below to take on a bluer form, and you can tell that easily if you were just to step outside or look at photos of grass and know that it isn't a vivid green like it is in the day. Night themes also don't show a lot of details, simply because the darkness causes your eye to see less in the distance, so most of your details will want to be in the foreground and mid-ground.
You can find a ton of info about how to paint lighting from YT videos, and I myself have learned quite a bit from this guy here, Feng Zhu: www.youtube.com/user/FZDSCHOOL… . He does digital art, but he refers to learning the fundamentals a lot, so what he talks about when it comes to the fundamentals can go for digital or traditional.
When I first got my tablet last year I had a ton of trouble trying to figure out how use it, but over time you get use to it... I don't like to use Photoshop for my linework though, I tend to use Paint Tool SAI for that, it makes my lines much smoother when I draw, and when I have my linework done, I then try to use Photoshop to paint the actual image. I love using colored pencils, I just wish I had more of them, and if I had the money I'd love to get Prismacolors! Shading with colored pencils takes time, but they look cool when done right!
And you'll definitely get good at drawing, I already like how they look, especially the Mane Six one: calebp1716.deviantart.com/art/… , I like the lighting you did in this one, it looks really good! Keep up the great work man! Eventually you're weaknesses will become strength's with enough practice and dedication. I look forward to seeing your future art man, just keep on practicing!

Naw, it's not confusing at all! ^^ Yeah, sometimes the way you hold the pencil/pen can give you a different shading effect. I like to cross hatch and sometimes shade by using the side of my pencil to give a nice "realistic" effect. If you're trying to shade using color, I'd say that you'd want to actually go rather light first, get your base color established, figure out where the light source will be and then worry about the shading. I'd suggest staying away from pure black as much as possible, unless you really need it for areas of intense dark or as outlines. I'd try using a darker color of your base if you can, and if you need to, use black to just gradually make the color darker.
No problem for the link, in fact I know of a few good traditional artists you could check out if you'd like, I've learned quite a bit of just looking at their art and their tutorials that they have. I hope you don't mind the extra links, I just thought that they'd help if your interested, and they're all traditional artists!
Proko, has some really great tutorials on drawing traditionally, www.youtube.com/channel/UClM2L…
My personal favorite, simply because he makes things really simple is Mark Crilley! ^^ www.youtube.com/user/markcrill…
My other favorite, who really helped me learn some great techniques is Leonardo Pereznieto from "Fine Art Tips" www.youtube.com/user/FineArtEB…
You did a great job, I love pen work, and the "messy" look actually adds quite a bit of character to your picture, it gives it a very genuine look to it, which I love! When I'm at work and have nothing to do for awhile, I love to spend some time drawing in pen, and it really forces you to have to think about where you place your lines since they can't be removed. Sometimes those stray lines can be considered "happy accidents" in your work, which is really neat because it wasn't planned!
Just keep on drawing man, your work is already really great, and it'll only continue to improve with practice!
