Nice. Nevertheless, the background looks weird. The depth doesn't feel uniform and in spots it feels more flat than cloudlike. The colors in the cloudy/hazy bits are also a little noisy relative to the rest of the picture. A little more brown in the "cliff edges" to the left and right and a little more of the side/edge on the right side of the right one would help.
Also, Celestia seems to be just a tad on the pudgy side, although that may simply be a result of the thick lines of shadow on the backs of her legs. Reducing the thickness of those lines would be an improvement in my opinion. Additionally, the separate wings are not well defined against each other/her body near her neck and it looks a little white and blobby between the feathers on one and the other. A little more emphasis, like a darker border or some shadow between them might help.

Haha, I totally agree with ya here. I'm not the greatest artist, so I tend to make quite a few mistakes, and since I am now learning a whole new program it is a little bit difficult to try and get the hang of it right now. I am very grateful to have a good critique, and I'll most definitely do my best to work on those weak areas. One of the most major things that I have difficulty with are wings and feathers, I don't really understand how to draw/paint them accurately yet, but I'm hoping that over time I'll come to understand them through study and practice. My shading in here is really off, I should have been more careful where I placed my lights and darks, and could have done better painting the rock faces, perhaps add more of a rockish color could have made a nice improvement, instead of... whatever you want to call that mistake I made!
I'll keep working on improving my technique, and studying the fundamentals, hopefully, given enough time, I'll be able to come around and have a nice painting at some point! ^^

Well, thanks. I don't do much art myself, but it's not much use saying anything if I can't find something specific to mention. Using a slightly darker color (darker slate-ish?) for things that are supposed to be rock (as opposed to dirt) might help. I think the lighter grays are picking up some of the pink. Now that you mention it the wings do look a little funky. As it is, they look a little flat rather than having an arched/cup shape to them. I don't know if it's entirely correct for ponies, but if you look at this falcon ->Β samcook.areavoices.com/files/2β¦ you can see that the wing sort of a bowl like shape to it, it sort of arches backward and then comes back. Celestia's wings in your drawing look a bit like they're at maybe a 45 degree angleΒ with her body and sticking straight out. The feathers look okay, but not quite like a real wing. Now, again, Celestia is a winged pony, not a bird, but have a look at this diagram ->Β www.birdforum.net/attachment.pβ¦
Do you use a tablet?

Thank you very much for thme diagrams and the advice, I really appreciate that! I'll do my best to try and incorporate what you have said into my work. I'm always trying to improve my work, and with comments like yours, being helpful to another artist, is greatly appreciated! Over time, I hope that me drawing wings will become easier, and have a much better result. I'll also be sure to practice more on where I should add my dark's and where I shouldn't.
And yes, I do use a tablet, a Wacom Bamboo Create, actually. It took me quite awhile to figure it out, but I have come to appreciate how it works. It sure beats using the touch pad on my laptop, I had to first learn digital art by using that for quite awhile, and dang, I literally would rub the skin off of my fingers drawing like that! XD I've only been drawing for about a year, and having a tablet to help me with my work has been a great experience. I know I have quite a bit to learn, and hopefully with enough practice, I'll get better at digital art!

Hmm... I'm not sure what to tell ya, but I'll do my best to help you out here. First of all, I wish I had an Intuos, those are really cool! ^^ Second, the pen you have, try seeing if flipping it over on the opposite side, like a pencil, and see if that end will work as an eraser. If it doesn't, try seeing if selecting the eraser tool on that end will help, because for me, in SAI, when I flip the pen over to the eraser end, I can use the eraser only if it is selected as the eraser tool, and when I flip it back over to the pen side it works as a pen or pencil.
I would also try to see if your drivers are up to date, if not, try seeing if updating your drivers will help. I looked up some forums to see if they could help you out with your problem, and from what I've read they tend to say that your eraser should be configured in your user preferences for your Tablet, on the "Pen" settings. Oh, and btw, I found that some programs, PS, for one, won't let me use the eraser end of my pen to erase, I can only do that on the pen side, but there is a way to get the eraser to work if you use one of the buttons that are on the pen, which can be used for shortcuts, and you can map it to be able to use the eraser tool.
I can't seem to find anything that will exactly fix what your looking for, and the only software that I think should work are the drivers themselves, because other than that, I've never heard of any other software that is meant to help with a Wacom tablet. I hope that you get it fixed man, I hate it when my tablet starts to act up, but I find that anytime that I re-install a new driver my problems seem to be fixed... that and occasionally when I restart my computer will that fix my problems.
And yeah, I'm pretty dedicated to digital art, and at the start, I had no other way to do it than my touchpad, I didn't even have a mouse at that time, so that's all that I had to go with. I started in GIMP and just kept going with my art until I got a tablet and bought Paint Tool SAI, that's when I started to really get into digital art and try to improve. I still have a ton to learn, but for me, that's the funnest part of it! ^^ The challenge of learning and practicing, has the greatest rewards in my opinion!

It's just one of these ->Β www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-Toβ¦
I do like the silver and black look though. It's pretty lightweight too. The drivers seemed to be installed just fine
and I can change the config which seems to work fine except the eraser tool doesn't work in the programs I've tried. So, maybe
I'll try the trial of paint tool sai (I'm not paying that much for software) and see if that works. I think it's an issue of software support unfortunately. It's just annoyingΒ that it wouldn't work with just any program (you'd think Microsoft and Wacom could make that work). Next time I use it I'll try to see if I can configureΒ one of the buttons as undo because hitting control-z to remove the last line you drew is annoying.
Thankfully these tablets have become relatively cheap, because drawing with them is much intuitive than translating anything through a mouse.
The little bit of art I do is mostly traditional stuff like drawing with pencil/pen on paper and I had a class back in high school in ceramics where
we made some a mug and a bowl and some other stuff. Watercolor is pretty fun to work with too. Digital art doesn't require as much in the materials and equipment department though.

That was absolutely stunning and I'm about to fall asleep at the computer,
Β so that makes it even more impressive to make me have to comment on it
Β instead of just skipping over it because I'm so out of it. You understand.
When you feel half dead you could care less. This made me care, so great work. Keep it up.

XD I am so happy to hear that my piece was good enough that even though you're tired you still felt like leaving a comment, that means a lot to me, thank you! I'm also really glad that you cared about my piece enough to leave a comment, I also appreciate that, and again, thank you very much! ^^
