The Lowdown On The Download

Hey. How ya doing? Still got that rash? I think what you need is some more Transformer jokes. Yeah, rub a couple cards on the specified area and call me in a day or three.

SILVERBOLT: GET IT, CUZ AUTOBOT+PILOT=AUTOPILOT AND ALSO AUTOPILOT MEANS THE PLANE FLIES ITSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could swear I’ve heard the line “Ever done it with a pilot?” before from a movie or something. Either way, if you like this set then you should thank our art buddy mentacle mentacle.deviantart.com for helping to create this whole set. She requested Silverbolt, a pretty overlooked character. I was about to reply saying “Sorry, all the characters have been picked” when I got booted off the internet. Waiting for it to boot back up, I remembered a few character puns that had farted out from memory until that moment, so here we be!

Silverbolt was the default leader of the Aerialbots. Think of Optimus’ resolve with the soul-sucking charisma of Rodimus. He was actually a likeable character…if you could get past his distracting Angelina Jolie lips. Someone asked me if his lips really looked like that. Oh, I couldn’t possibly hope to render those uncomfortably man-pretty smackers. He did have reason to pout ‘em, seeing as he had to wrangle his coworkers from bouts of dumbness.

I liked that in an episode (War Dawn or something) the Aerialbots consider that Megatron might be misunderstood. It COULD have made for an interesting plot dilemma for a few episodes. Conveniently in the same episode however, they get transported back in time to Ye Olde Cybertron right when Megatron hit the scene. You COULD wonder why a planet inhabited by robots would be designed to utilize water, but try to ignore that…it’s blue oil or something. Megatron starts out being interesting and suave and you think you COULD be watching a story about him manipulating the populace into mining energy for him. But he goes crazy retarded and just blasts everything in sight for no discernable purpose:

Megatron: I’m taking all this energon from you!!
Orion Pax: Well, sure! We have plenty of the stuff and can easily find more for you if—
Megatron: Die peaceful robots with no weapons!!
*BWOOM*

Clearly, the episode was designed to teach children that daddy will always hit you and you can’t change him.

DEVASTATOR: Detached, emotionally and physically. Don’t invest too much into someone so unstable, chances are he’ll fall apart on you. In fact I never had the urge to own the toy parts to create Devastator on account that he looked like he’d disconnect if you looked at him funny. It was hard to take Devastator as a serious threat since he managed to get blown apart within the first two minutes of combining. “Constructicons: merge to form Devastat—dammit, give us a chance to move, Autobutts!!”

…Anybody else think Devastator’s head resembles a whistle or a key? Grimlock’s dino head reminded me of a whistle too.
Toot toot here comes calamity!

RUMBLE: Cappitron makes fun of all of Cybertron’s creatures, great and small. Not to pat myself on the back too hard, but I love the look on his face; Rumble’s totally convinced he has what it takes to rock your world. After all, he’s renowned for his amazing pounding skills. It also helps that a few of da ladiez on DevArt were excited to see the little guy on the roster.

I think Rumble’s card is the most brazen of the set, which makes sense since subtlety and coyness weren’t in his programming. Whenever he’s onscreen you get a rumbly in your tumbly, cuz you’re guaranteed to get a laugh. Rumble was designated as the staple comic relief character, whether it’s due to his misunderstanding of what’s said to him or he physically screws things up.

Fun Fact: If memory serves me, and it usually doesn’t, then Rumble is in the same discolored boat as Starscream. See, during the pilot episode of the series (More Than Meets The Eye), Rumble’s character colors were mixed up during production; he was supposed to be black and red but got placed with Frenzy’s reference sheet of pretty perky purple. Likewise, Starscream was slated to be colored as one of the other seekers, probably in the stereotypical black and purple villainy threads. For future episodes they decided to just roll with the flub, and kept the color swap to avoid confusing the viewers (oddly, such concern didn’t stop the strobe light of mismanaged pallets in future episodes). It is curious that Hasbro took the time to repackage the boxart for Starscream, but Rumble was still released in his original black/red deco.

Still with me? Anybody fall off back there? We may be winding down, which makes me bummed because I’ve had a blast bantering with you gals (and like, two guys) over how to make these more offensive. Thanks for supporting fanart that is hardly flattering to the creators. Keep on watching just until the final set’s done!
