hrmm usually I would hop on the "art theif is evil" bandwagon, but in this case, I disagree. Since it seems there are quite some differences, As if the person referanced it and just redrew it. The Copier even claims that it isn't their orignal and that they got it from an other artist (I would assume that would be you and that person just forgot your name).
The picture was obviously not just touched up digitally since to much of it was different. I'll admit it would have been in better taste of the person to note you and credit you for the orignal but personally I think you're at fault for bashing that person. I would agree with you if the person has just altered the orignal picture, but that does not seem to be the case here. I don't how some one who is probably trying to enhance their own abilities as a drawer. Just like a painter repainting someone else's work to learn a technique, or a band covering another band's song. You, ma'm, are being alittle to hasty with your anger, especially since it is so missplaced.
Unless the individual is lying in the descrition, then that person did nothing of much fault. You should forget all your internet drama and instead apologize to the person and explain to her that you don't mind her "copying" your art but you'd rather she does not upload it if she redoes one of your drawings. Otherwise you're just in bad character.

Hehe I reported him. And told him off. I have sort of adopted rip reporting as a hobby. I'm happy to do it. We SHOULD be able to publicly humiliate them, and they SHOULD be permanently banned from DA. Just opinion, but a crime is a crime.

I guess I'm not sure how "art theft" is such a big deal. How does it get to be called "horribly appalling" or compared to stealing someone's soul? People copy art all the time (and copyrighted photos even more). It's widely accepted as an appropriate way to learn to draw or paint. I could see a problem if it was a piece that you were selling commercially and they were nosing in on your business, or if they were violating copyright on a for-hire piece that legally belongs to someone else (not you). But goofy fantasy-creature gift art?
Who cares if an inferior artist copies your art and posts it on an online gallery where most of the pictures are lined-paper Sonic fan art? No one is going to mistake this dude's copies for your originals, and such behavior on his/her part isn't anything to take personally. That person just really enjoyed that picture enough to try to copy it. Ask him/her to acknowledge you as the original artist in the description (a link to the original picture would be appropriate) and leave it at that.

Normally I wouldn't care...I'm far from a rabid defender of my art. Most 'thieves' I encounter at least try to acknowledge the fact that their ideas originated from mine, if they had any inspiration at all. I would accept a simple nod o' influence, especially in such a blatant re-do as this. The artist doesn't attempt very hard to make the picture 'hers'...and that aggravates me as well.
Granted, I was hasty to douse this with aggression...but the sources given still aren't specific enough for me to let it slide completely.

Ask her to link to you, then. It is very possible she had the picture on her hard drive and didn't remember where she found it. It happens.
As it is your fans are throwing a rabid fit and pulling a Huskie all over this kid (who is only like 16 by the way). The title/description of this picture and the way your fans are acting right now is very unflattering to you, so I suggest attempting to settle this as quietly as possible from this point forward.

I appreciate the concern, but it will be dealt with summarily.
And if you ever hint again that I'm 'pulling a Huskie', whatever that means...there WILL be trouble.

I caught someone stealing one of your jaybird gryphons a few weeks back. The girl took it down after I called her on it. I like your old drawings, I've been a fan of yours for a long time. I really like your new drawings, too.

.................. I love the drawing....and it's sad that art theft has to take away from it....
It's horridly apalling, it's *NOT* flattering, and it's like someone taking bits and peices of you ( and other people if it's for crying outloud A PRESENT) ... giving those bits of soul- roadrash... pasting it to cardboard and then having someone ELSE claim it as Their own bits of soul...
*sighs*
