Found the reference - and love the outcome only the more - you have caught his look and made it even deeper than in the original - that is what is making this picture so very special. An enormous result!

Wow . . . This is really good. I mean, he looks like a photograph that was made to look like a sketch. No matter where I look, I see detail, and I love that. I cannot tell you how disappointing it is when I see a sketch that looks amazing in one area and totally lazy in another. It ruins the illusion. I could look at this sketch all day, and the illusion would never be lost.
And you say you actually lost some quality in the scan? God! If only I could see this in person.

I cannot imagine what this must look like is quality was LOST. This is simply amazing.

Thank you ever so much. The main quality lose was the ends of the hair, it seems to of faded on the scan, although I think thats created an entirely different effect.
