Such an angel. I dont remember if boxers are on the BSL, but if they are, they need their heads checked. The breed's amazing, especially with young children. There shouldnt even BE a BSL. Time and money should be spent on more productive things. >.>

Oh, what a poor lovely girl! You really captured a lot of personality in this photo. I hope the men who brought her in were being honest, and that it was someone before them who got rid of the puppies and booted out the mother, seeing as they were at least considerate enough to take her to the shelter. Poor, poor sweetheart. My brother's dog was in a similar situation -- when he adopted her, she'd clearly had puppies in the somewhat-near past, although she was still a puppy herself and supposedly too young to conceive them yet. Also, someone had pierced her ears, and each one still has a little dot of scar tissue in the end of it. I'm very glad LueLue has a loving family, now!

If they did have her for 3 weeks, like they said, they definitely weren't feeding her. She was in terrible condition when she first came in; this photo is a week after she came in, so she was already doing way better.

if only I didn't live in Austin! I would get this dog. She is the perfect type of boxer, the kind that I've had pictured in my head, and I love bully breeds. Hopefully, she'll get a good home with a family that loves her. I'm a dog walker/rehabilitation that specializes in her kind of cases, and they always turn out to be amazing pets.

He have an amazing German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix who is a dream dog! His name is Baker and he came in as a stray. He's so very well behaved; knows sit, shake, and come as far as I've checked. He behaves around dogs, and is gentle around people and children. He walks beside you on the leash and offers his attention, never pulls. I wish I could adopt him, but I haven't the space! I'm going to post his picture shortly.

She was probably the sweetest dog in the shelter. She only wanted to stay by your side and look up at you with those sad eyes. You could tell she was thankful to be in a place where she could be taken care of and given a ton of love by all of the staff members.
This picture of course is a week after she was brought in; she's already way better than she was. With her condition, I doubt even half of the litter survived. She's lucky she survived.

Aww, she sounds like such an amazing dog. I'm happy to hear that she got a home. It'd be easy for her though, since she is so sweet.
It's great too hear that. I thought she would though since, not many people would adopt her if she was like that. She wouldn't be up for adoption anyways. I'm glad she'd did. It'd be sad if both her and the puppies died.

You kidding? She had more applications pending than any other dog or cat in the shelter. All emaciated dogs do. People like to adopt animals they feel sorry for. Because so many people wanted to help her, it was easy to find someone to pay for her medical expenses.

I wasn't kidding. I saw Animal Cop shows that took place in the US and they wouldn't put a dog up for adoption if it was emaciated until it recovered. Guess at the shelter it's different. Luckily it is though and that it was easy for someone to pay for her medical expenses.

That's probably because typically shelters would like to make sure the dog regains their weight healthily. If they eat too much too soon, their body will go into shock and shut down.
Our shelter, on the other hand does not have the space to hold a dog for very long. We are also low on foster homes, so it's important to have the dog adopted out asap.

The Brazos Animal Shelter takes care of neighboring counties that don't have animal shelters. I think it's 5 counties in total sharing 28 kennels and as many cages as we can stack: that's not enough for as many dogs as we get! Cats are even worse, as there are only 18 cages, and only one cat can go in at a time (unless of course it's a litter) where dogs we try to fit two or three together. This doesn't help with the issue of spreading diseases in the kennels, though...
The back room to hold all the black trash bags filled with corpses is bigger than any of the office rooms in the rest of the building... it's about the size of the lobby, and the trash bags are filled to the ceiling. I had the very... moving experience of witnessing one of our full-time workers loading the incinerator with those trash bags. I wonder if he goes home and cries everyday.
And yeah, that's the problem with no-kill shelters. If a dog here doesn't get adopted out, and we'd really like to save them, we will trade animals with Houston ASPCA if they also have the same issue.

Thankfully we don't have many animal hording cases.
We are, however, currently building a new property with more kennels and cages for the animals. It's very exciting!
