Dear CB-Dragoness - do you have more time these days? I really need a shoulder mounted dragon puppet for Comic-Con next summer (2018). What do you say?

Beautiful work and most inspiring. I do have 2 small questions tho. The paint on the dragon's head. Is it the same fabric paint you're using to paint the scales? (which is a awesome idea btw) and what did you use for the eye?Β

Oh gosh LOVE this! I looked at woodbaby puppets and I don't like their dragons! This would be amazing for my Silvia persona at the renaissance fair! She is a dragon tamer.Β Wish you would be selling these!

Hi, Do you sell these? When I was in elementary school, my teacher use to bring in a realistic dragon puppet, that could sit on your arm and move, I fell in love with it the first time I saw the Dragon. Since then I have wanted to buy one. This is amazing!

CB-Dragoness In reply to madisonhagan [2013-07-29 06:33:15 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately, while I would love to sell these, the time and effort required to make even one makes it pretty much impossible. Β Someday when I have more free time I may be able to make a simpler version to sell, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

This is awsome! Are you able to make a tutorial on how to do this sort of stuff? (the animatronic part in particular)

CB-Dragoness In reply to boofyhalfpint [2013-02-02 21:29:44 +0000 UTC]
I have so little spare time these days that it's not likely to happen. The best way to start making something like this is to just get some parts and scraps and start tinkering!

No problem, I am "tinkering" with Meccano building sets at the moment to see if I can make a dragon out of that...it is a different 'take' I guess.

OHMYGOSH THAT IS AWESOME!
Let's say I comission one of these from ya. How much would it cost, as well as shipping and timing?

Much as I wish I could, I just don't have the time to devote to this kind of thing right now. Sad but true.

Love it! Where did you learn to do the animatronics? I saw a Fairy Cat on a gentleman's shoulder at a Renaissance Faire and really want to learn how to make one.

CB-Dragoness In reply to Lynith25 [2012-09-01 23:02:33 +0000 UTC]
I "learned" by trial and error. I just put it together and fiddled with it until I got it right.

CB-Dragoness In reply to caruo-MJ [2011-08-27 18:03:42 +0000 UTC]
The mechanism is brass rods held together with solder, with cable casings from model airplanes and braided fishing line for the control cables. The head and feet are sculpted from Model Magic (a lightweight, air-dry modeling stuff) and the skin over the movable parts is fabric (stretch velvet). Then the scales are painted on with fabric paint for a nice 3-D effect.

The model magic is for the feet, head, and neck. Anywhere that is not sewn fabric.

I'm just a tinkerer. I designed the joints and control systems as I went, just kinda messing with it until it worked.

CB-Dragoness In reply to sirus17 [2009-02-05 08:33:27 +0000 UTC]
I don't at this time, mostly because this is the prototype. The scale technique on this one makes it time-prohibitive to do on any I might ever sell, but I certainly might sell one with a simpler scale pattern. I'd need a commission first though, because I wouldn't make another just in the hopes that it would sell.
