Euthoria
A place of magic, happiness, and home to many mythical creatures of any sort. Magic is the very life force in which everything was and is created from.
The first signs of humans in Euthoria appeared around the year 200 E. This was called the Nerin Age, the first recorded age of human history. In this age, humans began building small communities and quickly learning about the magic of Euthoria. Primitive yet inquizitive, humans began learning of magical creatures as well.
The second age was called the Sericus Age, almost 400 years later, in the year of 600 E. Humans were beginning to grasp the knowledge of magic, and the factors it possessed. Dragons were discovered in this time, making them a feared race of mankind. In that time, many did their best as to not aggravate them and bring the wrath of the mighty beasts down upon them.
However, it was soon discovered that Dragon’s blood had special magical and healing powers.
Greedily, people began to kill and hunt down dragons for the properties of their blood. A group began rising up, the people calling themselves Dragon Slayers as they did what their title suggested. Slaying and gathering dragon’s blood was what the Dragon Slayers did and were often hired to do by Noble’s. It was rumored that they possessed an unknown magical power that could weaken the dragons in order to kill them.
This caused a huge amount of distrust and hostility between the dragons and humans, which soon turned into a war that was winning on only one side. Around this time, Northpoint became the main city of Euthoria, it’s great castle sitting on the northern cliffs and shore of Euthoria. By now, the people were figuring out how to govern themselves, deciding on appointing a council and then choosing a King for executive power, as to secure that the council would not get out of control or be too powerful. A king would also be the representative for foreign kingdoms and trade, head of the military, and have final say in any laws or acts passed for Euthoria.
At the time, the House of Kirkland was one of the most powerful and wealthy Houses in Euthoria, and it was decided that Christopher Kirkland, head of the Kirkland House, was to be chosen as the first King of Euthoria. This made the Kirkland House become the royal family of Euthoria for generations to come.
The problem of dragons was still at hand and the Council had voted to once and for all end the dragon race with a powerful counter attack. However, King Christopher refused to take such a measure, and instead went alone to the mountains that the dragons were rumored to have lived on top of, in hopes of negotiating peace between the two races without bloodshed.
These mountains later became known as the Arid Mountains, the tallest in the world. Upon requesting and showing he only meant to negotiate, the leader of dragons, Argaroth, flew down from its peaks and stood in front of Christopher. How he managed it, none could say, but King Kirkland returned to Northpoint proclaiming the war with dragons was over. Any who still tried to kill dragons were locked away in the dungeons for years to lifetimes
The third age was called the Lidelian Age, 200 years late in the year of 800 E. After Christopher Kirkland had been proclaimed the King of Euthoria, the process of growing in size and population sped up immensely. People set out across the land to settle down, and discover more places now that there was peace with the dragons.
To the East, just south of Northpoint was the Shoaling Coast, with it’s main port city being Shoa. To the South, many farmers settled in the rolling hills and plains, founding the small city of Falren. Finally, to the West at the edge of the Arid Mountains was Wildacre, a city well known for its hunters and trade.
During this time, dragons soon began disappearing mysteriously and suddenly, without reason. Many believed that the dragons had gone back to the Arid Mountains as to leave the humans alone, some thought they had died out, and others believes the dragons moved to a place where no humans could disturb the, leaving Euthoria altogether. There were no dragons left in the sky as far as any human could see. By setting out across the continent, new magic was found and learned, new species of magical creatures were documented, and the first interaction with the foreign Kingdom of Leon was made. The next three reigns under the Kirklands were prosperous and happy ones.
The fourth and current age is called the Renelion Age, the year is 1012 E. The time of peace for the last two hundred years had made the kingdom of Euthoria grow prosperous and rich. However, after King Kirkland the IV died, his eldest son was appointed to the throne. Before his coronation, Allistor Kirkland was assassinated. Having only one heir old enough to the throne of the Kirklands, the Council decided that in order to keep peace and the country running, the throne would go to the son of Maverick Braginski, Ivan. The Braginski house was a part of the council, and one of the most wealthy.
Skepticism and suspicion aroused as to the sudden assassination and choice of who to put on the throne. Most often, the House of Braginski did not see eye to eye with the royal Kirkland family, and never got along with them mainly because they were known to acquire power in any way they could. Though some argued that the House of Braginski had been caught up in shady transactions, the Council still crowned Ivan to ensure a royal line of Euthoria. The Kirkland family still lived in the castle, but after Ivan had been crowned King, no one heard from them again.
The people of Euthoria suffered well from the transaction of Ivan Braginski living on the throne. Unlike the patient and selfless rule under the Kirklands, King Ivan ruled with an iron fist and greed. He seemed to take pleasure in watching people be whipped for crimes and injustices. The economy was still high, but taxes were raised beyond belief. Not only were citizens affected, but the magical creatures of the land soon began going into hiding when Ivan declared the hunt for magic. This declaration caused many creatures to be hunted down and killed for their magic, much like the Dragon Slayers of the Sericus Age.
The five years following, unhappiness spread across the land, and soon people began to protest and riot. They demanded to know what had happened to the Kirklands, knowing that by now they surely had someone of age to take the throne. Evading all questions and inquires as to the status of the House of Kirkland, King Ivan only let them riot for so long.
To quiet the people and assert his power, he ordered The Estrercis Knights, a branch of the Euthorian Army dedicated to serving and protecting the royal family, to seek out rioters and kill them, burn their villages, and take any money they could. This quickly put fear into people and the rioting ceased; though in hushed whispers the people still were unhappy and fearful, not liking the Braginski House as the royal family. Euthoria is slowly falling into ruin and Ivan is only the first Braginski King. If things are to continue as they were, Euthoria will fall into hopeless despair.
More than ever, Euthoria needs a savior.
