So, I've been nursing an idea for a good long while now of a flying squirrel super hero... I'd draw little sketches here and there to try and get the concept out of my head and onto paper, but it was never something I was fully satisfied with.

Well, I'm happy to say that I've finally settled on a design that I'm happy with, and I'd like to share him with you guys now!

Meet Kestrel! This little fellow used to be the animal sidekick of a young boy super hero, and they used to be quite the pair: going around and beating up villains and vagrants alike while also helping people in their daily lives! Unfortunately, the young boy met a tragic end in the midst of his heroics and, as a result, Kestrel cast aside the mantle and gave up super hero'ing altogether.
Years passed, and the squirrel formed a protective shell around his little heart, mostly keeping to himself and not reaching out to connect deeply with anybody. However... he still can't keep himself from helping the occasional person in need and stopping a small-scale robbery or two. When a new threat comes to his city and forces him to take action, Kestrel has to make the choice between hiding away or stepping forward and taking a chance at standing up for something again.
With that in mind, Kestrel dons his goggles and puts on the worn red scarf once again...

So, yeah, a bit of backstory for the little guy there He's supposed to be a squirrel that can fly at supersonic speeds and can be a bit more cynical and gruff than his cute appearance would lead you to believe. However, he's still a hero at heart!
Kestrel is definitely still a work in progress, but I look forward to using him more in the future! I don't get to do a lot of personal super hero designs, so this was a lot of fun.
