Description Amy, AKA The Girl From Nowhere, and a Viral. From Justin Cronin's The Passage. A brilliant book!

Never done an illustration of any kind so this was hard work but then the competition its for is called 'Train your Brain' so I guess it's apt!
Painting a Viral: How do you make something look like it's glowing slightly yet be dark and creepy?! I still don't think I've worked that out!

Tools: Photoshop CS6 + Wacom Intuos4

Time: Approx' 20hrs (including prep work)

It does look like it yeah! I think his descriptions are just so vivid you get this great mental image.
They really are great books.

please do some more passage work, there's a sad lack of it here on DA.
The style here almost reminds me of FEAR (the game), amy looks almost creepy, which fits the atmosphere of the pic. Love the viral, very simliar to how I imagined them.

Thank's I'm glad you like it! Annoyingly I've lent my copy of 'The Passage' to a friend so I couldn't flick through it for descriptions to help with the process and there is very little detail on the wiki or else where online so I had to just go from memory. I think i'll try to do some more for this series though definitely!

Yeah, I did the same, lent my first book to a relative, ended up having to go buy a massmarket version that's now available.
