Description
My new primaris lieutenants. These models posed an interesting conundrum for me in terms of the 'lieutenant stripe'. In the end, it came out clear and bold.
When i started to paint my space marines, i wanted something quick and easy to get done, as space marines arnt my primary army. Still, i love the primaris models, and wanted whatever i did to look good. I had just bought a retuibutor (?) gold spray, which i had planed to use for making some gold statues for scenery. I decides i would use this as a base. I was going to give my marines a white helmet aswell, and tested the scheme of some of the 'space marines through the ages' models. Just after finishing this, i saw some of my local GW stores own space marines (Northampton).
They inspired me on what colours i wanted to use, which ended up as so:
Gold base coat, bronze drybrush (1 layer, blending the gold and bronze into a warm bronze colour). Silver metal, stone decorations, red eyes, gold trim (for second company), brown shoulders (with brown helms for sargents, and a brown left knee plate for squad leaders). A full, unwatered brown wash (i wanted the deep shading and the dirty look this gave). White highlight drybrush on bone decorations. Green and red lights. Red highlight on eyes.
The final process on painting was the army markings. I hadnt planned to do these originally, however i got too into painting these, despite my desire to paint them at minimal effort. I dont do much free hand painting however. In creating the army sigil i wanted something i could easily freehand, but that looked impressive. The sphere with points came out as best, and formed the name of my custom chapter, the 'Guiding Lights'. Tactical squad markings went were painted fairly standard, while squad numbers were based on the codex astarties standard, and painted on the left knee. Mostly to make it easier than painting on top of the squad marking. Free hand painting the skull was not easy work, yet it came out surprisingly well all things considered.
