Description So, this is Bastial. He's from an alternative universe and a mirror counterpart to GMD's Basil. He was ORIGINALLY supposed to be a one-sided joke character, but he's such an oddball I'm planning to give him a mini-series like anthology.
He's the cuckoolander to Basil's eccentric, he's slightly dull compared to Basil's smarts but he has his shades, he stinks at his sniper rifle and prefers it much to the disdain of other characters (he's much better at his pistol ) , he's American to Basil's English, and he also has a much bigger ego and is pretty damn cocky, he's also an outright flirt. During the crossover arc with Basil, he hilariously flirts with his 19th Century London counterpart. Edit: I imagine him voiced by Yuri Lowenthal.

Bastial's world is really freaking crapsacky, the western section (Bastial's home, and the 1st quadrant) is tame compared to the other 3 sections. It's a fusion of different eras with it's own section and rules, but one rule remains the same: you have to be armed. The 2nd section resembles the iron age complete with smoke stacks that are neighbors to the western area, the 3rd section resembles 19th Century London with modern placements, neon signs and modern phones in a 19th century world, complete with fashion malls and modern theatre's and avid night clubs, the 4th section is the worst, and the most sci-fi and modern out of all the sections but it's where the Four Queens reside. The 4th section is well known for it's crime and technology. Robot/Cyborg augmentations that can alter your performance, a cleaner enviornment, tall buildings (much taller than the 3rd section) , robots, updated weaponry. However, it has very little green (minus the Four Queens garden) and the black market and illegal augmentation is abound, it doubles as a hive to shady characters and Bastial can't stand the 4th section.

He...literally has to be dragged to get the heck over there, when he's summoned by said rulers.

Edit: More of his background and personality: [link]

I'd give out more, but I think you got enough info. I like this character and I can't wait to play with him, he does get his own arc as a bonus arc during the WotZ Anthology. Characters you know from the anthology, will either come back or the characters you know currently will take a level in badass, but they're still the same. Have fun when that ride comes.

You've got an interesting character design.  I really like the way you drew the head.
I'd like to see how you develop your style.

Well, who can NOT like him? He's obnoxious, egoistic, slightly dumb, and also one of the most adorable characters ever x3

So, yes, I am a new Bastial fan XD

His dummy-ness is endearing, and because he's a cloud cuckoolander...he spouts out non sequiturs at the most un-needed moments. I swear, ever since I made Bastial, doing his dialogue is the funnest I had. And yay! Each time I see Bastial getting a new fan, I get fuzzies. He just brings joy to people.

And his dialogue is hysterically funny XD. I swear, I couldn't stop laughing at some of his lines. He's just so adorable!!!! *Glomps Bastial*

*looks at above text* Whoops. Now I'm starting to sound like a crazed fan-girl. Whoops.

Nah, it's okay. Bastial has that effect on everyone, even my GMD friends, especially Amber ( ALS123) and Chris (NightMagican) are such huge fans of Bastial. And my friend from ceramics class even admitted she'd date him. I find it funny though, in universe....he's not that popular with women, but when it comes to beyond the 4th wall, girls go Bastial gaga.

I suppose Bastial has claimed another victim, then XD.

Which then raises another problem: What to do about it? I mean, now I'm fangirling over an anthropomorphic detective mouse who comes from Westerdia and hunts bandits...I'm pretty sure that's not normal...

Ah, who cares. I'll fangirl over him anyway. XD

Rango is one of my favorite Western animated movies. Bastial's costume is a fusion of a poncho and Sherlock's deerstalker. So, it's a deerstalker poncho. ^^

When I used to draw characters and upload from scanning...I hardly used references since I had no access to a computer. I have an IPAD now, and I just mostly write. My old comp crashed. But it's okay, I found out I'm a better writer than artist but I sometimes miss drawing.

CherlnIDA In reply to mouselady [2014-06-19 16:18:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he was once a joke character of a flipped version of Basil. But he ended up being a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass character through his development. He's still a counterpart, he's everything else Basil's not. Him being a bounty hunter and having a life of crime at what one point is contrast to Basil being born into law. It's...the opposite. And I'm surprised at how much love he's been getting. Was not expecting such a huge overwhelming response but people love him and that makes me happy. ^^

CherlnIDA In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-05-29 18:36:25 +0000 UTC]

Aw, thanks. I imagined Bastial's world being filled with advanced technology as opposed to it still developing like it is still in 19th Century London, but due to other mirror worlds around their dimension. It becomes an anachronism stew. I didn't want it to just stick to Westerdia. Verda-Englus is just as big as the actual UK. But I still wanted Verda-London to feel like a metropolis. ^^

ThermidorResistance In reply to CherlnIDA [2014-05-30 00:19:58 +0000 UTC]

Ah ok... the movie was just really bad, and doesn't reflect the comic well at all.
Ah ok, I think it's avail at most libraries but then, some are better than others as far as book selection goes.  Anyway it is a cool idea.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CherlnIDA In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-05-30 00:34:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, the movies are just general popcorn flicks then. It's like how The Series of Unfortunate Events movies don't reflect the dreariness of the books but then again, you don't want the kids depressed at the box office. But I still enjoy the movie for entertainment but I still love the books. I have gotten into comic books again, been wanting to read Sandman for a long while. I would love to see the books with the original illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D). And Deadpool. I'm mostly a manga person since they're easier to find and hunt down online than comic books but I still love comic characters and heroes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ThermidorResistance In reply to CherlnIDA [2014-05-30 16:21:36 +0000 UTC]

Yep I like manga as well, but I also appreciate graphic novels aka comics for grown ups XD.  Sandman is awesome you can get the graphic novels at the library.  The cool thing is, my local library is now carrying manga.  It's really nice to see it being recognized as a literary art form.

CherlnIDA In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-05-30 16:36:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, same here. I mostly read horror manga by Junji Ito. He's a pretty prolific horror manga artist. And cool, it should. There are some manga's out there that really are like art. I once read this one online where they combined surrealism, horror, and the works of Heiromonyous Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. I'm a huge Bosch fan so I squee'd even though the body horror kinda freaked me out. But I've seen and watched body horror stuff before, but this one kinda threw me off guard. XD I'd love to visit the library again and get a few books to read...but my brother might tear them. = =

CherlnIDA In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-05-30 19:12:32 +0000 UTC]

They only had two graphic novels. One based off of Twilight and the other based off of an actual book and made by Cassandra Jean who is also here on dA. I wanted it the most. But it was so costly! It was about these children with unique abilities in a...19th Century freak show kinda way. And I love that! But it was just as expensive as the book it was based on. But it is worth the buy.

ThermidorResistance In reply to CherlnIDA [2014-05-30 22:34:01 +0000 UTC]

I agree I miss the bookstore I used to go to.  I like the small stores better than the big chains, but the larger chains tend to carry more stock of the popular titles. (DeathNote etc). Also FYE did carry a nice selection of anime and cosplay stuff.  It looks like I'm going to be getting back into cosplay now esp when my son gets older.

I never cosplayed before but I always wanted to dress up as my favorite characters on Halloween since I don't have the money to go to Con's. I always wanted to dress up as Lain from Serial Experiments Lain. That's one of my favorite cyberpunk anime next to Ghost in the Shell. I also got into Texchnologic from the same person who came up with Lain. I love his ideas and concepts, he makes cyberpunk feel so dark and gritty yet it's still so down to earth and he manages to throw in science and philosophy and makes it so...thought provocative. It's a treat for the eyes and the brain. And now I'm talking like Oancitizen again.

I love Ghost in the Shell!!!  I have the entire series of Ghost in the Shell S.A.C the soundtrack to that anime is incredible!  Have you seen Attack on Titan?  It's a very very dark anime but also very well done.  It's a bit too dark and gritty for my taste but I would recommend it if you like horror and action/apocalyptic stuff.  The story is intense.  At the moment I'm working my way through Sword Art Online and the second season of Mushi-Shi.

I remember being introduced to anime a long time ago with Voltron when it first aired in the US, then I would watch it occasionally here and there when some came out on VHS like Sherlock Hound.  It wasn't until later when I saw Cowboy BeBop, Outlaw Star, and the very first season of Digimon that I started to really get into it.  I did watch a little of Sailor Moon, but the redundancy of the daily stories made following the arc boring for me.  I heard it got way better in the following seasons as characters started to get more developed, so I may take a look at the reboot coming soon.  Then I got into Naruto.  I followed Naruto pretty much into Shippuden but stopped just before "The Ninja War".  Again the story was just dragging way too much.

I watched a little bit of Death Note, then I moved into reading Shojo manga and I've never looked back.  Fruits Basket, Ouran HS Host Club, and some slice of life manga was a much lighter fare.  I then got into .hack//  and now I am watching and reading more fantasy orientated stuff.

As far as my favorite anime movies pretty much anything by Hayao Miyazaki tops the list with the top three being Princess Mononoke, Whisper of the Heart, Kiki's Delivery Service, and The Cat Returns.  I also like the more recent films like Howls Moving Castle, and The Secret Life of Arrietty.

I kinda grew up with sentai's so I loved Sailor Moon and magical girls. ^^ I'm watching Mushi-Shi at the moment too. And Miyazaki has been a big influence to my fanfiction alongside Junji Ito and Kazuo Umezu coining in with my horror. The first anime I ever watched was a very obscure anime called Shonen Mowgli. My mom had a couple of the tapes.
And I love space westerns like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and Trigun even if it leans more towards Sci-fi western.
I love Leiji Matsumoto's sci fi work as well, combining emotion with character development and these beautiful other worldly planets, I'm a big fan of Captain Harlock and the Maetel Legend. My biggest favorite is Galaxy Express 999.
And...I'm a big CLAMP fan. These four girls were practically my story idols.

Outlaw Star was pretty epic.  I tried getting into Trigun, but Vash annoyed me too much.  I want to watch Captain Harlock, I think it's on Crunchyroll...  CLAMP is awesome!  Also Bubblegum Crisis.

CherlnIDA In reply to ThermidorResistance [2014-05-31 20:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh Vash just appears that way at first, but he's actually a pretty serious character. He was my base for Bastial's early development. He just gave off that joke character vibe at first but then he starts getting serious. Vash the Stampede is one of my favorite characters. And I really wanna watch Bubblegum Crisis, but not every anime is available for mobile. But Galaxy Express 999 the movie is available on youtube, I watched it when I was recovering in the hospital due to my pancreatitis. ^^
