So I finished Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood the other day, and as I tearfully watched the end credits, this image came up on the screen.And I laughed.
As charming as Roy is, I can't take him seriously with that mustache.
The caption was inspired by a friend who commented when I posted this picture on Facebook.

See, i love FMA Brotherhood with every being in my body! I support every decision made and I even LOVE the little things like the voice actors and the metaphors... but the mustache is where I draw the line. XD

Personally, I like the idea of him growing a mustache. It makes him look more seasoned & experienced. Perhaps a lingering sense of respect & admiration for the King Bradley he once knew (before he revealed himself as a sin), coupled with his own ambition to become Fuhrer, may have drawn him to emulate him a bit. Perhaps he is wearing it to be honest about that, rather than pretend like he never trusted his leader, wearing it like a scar: weathered but not weakened.
Hell, if nothing else, it makes him look a bit more DISTINCT among the crowd of generally stoic & calm anime guys with black hair.

I read the books, but I remember one of the extras that had Mustang trying to draw in a mustache. Β It looked like kitty whiskers.

There's a distinct migration towards attempted manliness here. Riza got a butch cut and Roy is sporting a stache, a very meager stach but a stache nonethless.
