This map was created for round three of the B_Munro Cover Project held on alternatehistory.com. This particular map is meant to be a cover of RoyalPsycho's Very Displaced . The map I submitted for the project several days ago just included Earth, but had a surge of interest in finishing the map, so here is the final product. I have a short timeline of major events below.

Early 2000s: Immigration from South and Central America to the United States continues. The Spanish langauge becomes increasingly dominant in southern and western states. A social and political divide emerges between English and Spanish speakers.

2025: NASA's Artemis II lands on the Moon. Space enters the vogue and nations around the world scramble to assemble their own lunar missions.

2029: American entrepreneur and transhumanist Zoltan Istvan founds the city of Transhumania in northern Burkina Faso. With support from the Burkinabé government, Transhumania attracts migrants from across the world interested in transhumanism and information technology.

2032: Kennedy Base, named for a man instrumental to early space travel, is established by the United States on the Moon.

2037: China suffers a military coup.

~2040: Zoltan Istvan and Transhumania have dumped significant amounts of money into Burkina Faso, which leads to neighboring countries encouraging transhumanist settlement. Istvan has built many orphanages and schools, which has led to an educated, digitally-literate generation that have gone to work in the STEM fields. This trend continues, and the region grows as a hub of transhumanism.

There are also many climate refugees by this point and large camps exist in the US and other developed nations.

2043: After years of stagnation, the United Russia Party loses control and Russia falls into chaos.

~2050: By this time, global warming has become a clear reality to everyone. The Arctic and Antarctic are melting very quickly and sea levels are rising noticeably.

2055: The European Union finally federalizes. By this time, Britain has returned to the EU.

2060: Sanford Griggs, a paleoconservative, is elected US President. His four years in office are devoted almost wholly to the elimination of environmental regulations, and though he will be followed by a more progressive president, the regulations he eliminated are hard to restore and many American companies once again ramp up their use of fossil fuels.

2072:Climate refugees are a serious issue worldwide. There are millions of them which has led to serious xenophobia worldwide. The UN International Commission on Climate-Related Displaced People releases a new plan: the Horowitz Scheme, which proposes settlement of climate refugees on the Moon en masse. This has support from some refugee community leaders because there have been people in camps for decades. On the other hand, there are people angry about being forced to leave Earth. The first pioneers launch and reach Mars in late 2073.

2078: A depression occurs worldwide.

2079: In Russia, following several decades of ineffectual, deadlocked democracy, the far-right Liberal Movement (which is ideologically descended from both the LDPR and Eurasianist movement) takes power in a coup. Russia embarks on a crash-program to bulk up its military and export weaponry to foreign states and gain favor there.

2080: With the economy on Earth in the dumps, many climate refugees sign up to go to the Moon. Because there is limited space there, the UN discusses the possibility of opening Mars to settlement.

2083: Members of Tsagaan Khas, the Mongolian Neo-Nazi-environmentalist party sweep elections after a major train derailment pollutes a suburb of Ulaanbaatar. Their leader, Batzorig Sainkhuu renames himself as Big Brother 2083. In the following years, Tsagaan Khas will come to dominate Mongolia as a single-party state.

2089: The UNCOCRDP approves refugee settlement on Mars. To avoid some of the problems on the Moon, various national zones are established. Many people depart for Mars by the year

2090: By now, Transhumanist parties have come to govern most of the states of West Africa. Body enhancements are becoming increasingly common in the region.

2092: World War Three breaks out when Russia sponsors a right-wing, anti-Muslim coup in France. The European Union is joined by the US and Mongolia in this war. Russia is joined by allies across the world, but most of those are much weaker and smaller than Russia itself.

2097: World War Three ends with Moscow overrun by Euro-American troops. Russia loses some peripheral territory and is divided into occupation zones. Ethnic minorities (which suffered from ethnic cleansing under the Liberal Movement) are given independence.

2100: Though there were plans to reunite Russia, those plans fell apart as the Mongol-run Central Russian Occupation Zone is becoming quite a mess and the American-run Far East being fairly normal.

2104: Seven years after Russia's defeat, the Far Eastern Republic is given independence. A large number of American soldiers settle down there as the government wants them there to replace natives killed under the Liberal Movement. Most of these soldiers are Spanish-speaking, given that most American soldiers are from the Spanish-speaking underclass.

2120: Ramón Wu-Scanlon is elected President of the United States. His platform includes the outlawing of fossil fuels for all purposes. His election is greeted with furor in the more conservative coastal and Upper Rockies states and in 2121, civil war breaks out when the Wu Act is passed into law. The pro-fuel states declare themselves the Independent Republic of America (IRA)

2124: Federal forces crush the last IRA forces. The war was hard-fought and the rebels used several dirty bombs towards the end of the conflict.

~2150: By now owing to loose laws on immigration which allow Americans to go there, the Far Eastern Republic is comprised of nearly 45% American-descended Spanish-speakers, which make them the largest group in the country. As Russian-speakers decline in power, a movement emerges that calls this area New Aztlán.

2158: The UN colonies on Mars announce they will become an independent state. The UN goes along with this plan.

2179: The European Sultanate is formed.

2183: Tensions rise between the US-aligned Far Eastern Republic and China over the Amur River.

2186: World War Four breaks out when the PRC launches a surprise attack on the Far Eastern Republic. The Republic is nearly overrun before American, Korean, and Japanese troops arrive.

2190: WW4 rages on. Fighting is absolutely brutal. The Mongols in particular seem to be focused more on genocide than actual fighting. Many of the extraterrestrial human states halt contact with the states on Earth. Nuclear weapons have been used to some degree.

2195: China and its various allies throughout the world are defeated in a final offensive that is heavily augmented by new biological weapons and nukes. Major territorial changes occur in China itself where the Nazi Mongols take most of the country.

In the chaotic aftermath of the Fourth World War, the wartime government of the Far Eastern Republic is defeated in a landslide by the Broad Front for New Aztlán. Within ten years the country will be renamed and the Spanish-speakers will be the ruling class.

~2200: Ismail Paria, a Maoist agitator, appears in Tehran.

2203: The United Nations reputation is in the dumps as a result of WW4. It seemed unable to prevent a brutal and catastrophic war. With several extraterrestrial states leaving during the war, it folds in 2203.

2208: Hurricane Alfred hits northeastern Brazil in July. It kills several thousand people in low-lying coastal towns. It turns out a youth handball tournament (the sport became globally popular in the 22nd century) was being held there and the attention of the world zeroes in. July is not usually hurricane season there, and global warming is blamed. Sympathy for the victims turns to anger against the US, which is labelled as the cause of climate change. Tensions rise worldwide.

2210: After two years, anger at the US is at an all-time high. A minor diplomatic incident involving a Congolese national in the US leads to war. The Anti-American War sees a surprise attack by several states on the US beginning with a massive cyberattack on American nuclear systems. Many nations, but primarily those in Africa and Latin America, join in. Canada is also attacked.

2214: The Anti-American War officially comes to an end when USMC General DaVonte Rodriguez surrenders to Brazilian General Aiden Sousa at East Glacier Park, Montana. Guerilla fighting will continue for years. North America largely becomes an occupation zone for the African powers and many soldiers on occupation duty will settle down because of how many Americans were killed or even fled to the Americana colony.

2217: A communist revolt breaks out in Iran led by Ismail Paria.

2219: Newly-elected President Boris Garcia of New Aztlán announces the sea to sea scheme. He promises a New Aztlán that extends from the Baltic to the Bering Strait. New Aztláni settlers with military protection stream into the warlord states of West Siberia.

2221: Ismail Paria leads his armies on a conquest of the Middle East.

2234: Ismail Paria, who has by now crowned himself Emperor of Terra, successfully invades India.

2249: Residual tension from the Africans getting a lions share of the former US erupt into war. The Afro-Hispanic War has begun.

2254: Several African and Latin American colonies join the UCM. An attempted expedition by the Brazilians to reclaim their colony ends when a multinational Martian fleet blocks them from entering orbit and forces them to return to Earth.

2255: The Afro-Hispanic War goes nuclear when the African Union launches their arsenal at the Latin forces. The African electronic warfare division and commandos manage to disable many of their enemy's weapons and the missile-defense divisions shoots down almost every missile as it crosses the Atlantic. Much of South and Central America is devastated. The fought-over borderland of the former US Southwest becomes a huge, uninhabitable radioactive zone. The War has ended with an African victory, yet the Africans have spent significant resources and there is discontent.

2256: The International Conference on South America takes place at Gagarin Station in Earth orbit. It is agreed that the various extraterrestrial states will evacuate South America and take in refugees. The lions share of these people go to the 2nd Lunar Republic or UCM.

2269: In one of the only wars to occur on Mars, the New Afrikans attack the Wiccan Commonweal. They do well at first but when the UCM, New Israel, and Macaulasia intervene, they are defeated. The confiscation of most New Afrikan weapons coincides with the declaration from Chairman-Secretary Kobi of the UCM that Mars should be a planet free of war and that all Martian states will intervene if a war occurs.

2274: Transhumania, which controls only parts of West Africa, expands massively by having its companies offer free augmentations to the people of neighboring states (including Nigeria, Chad, and Mauritania) in exchange for joining Transhumania. It stayed neutral in the Afro-Hispanic War and benefitted from being unscathed. Its economy is in a great shape, leading many states to accept the offer.
Meanwhile in Southern Africa, Baha'i parties are coming into power. There is much regret in Africa about the nuclear destruction of South America, and the Baha'i parties connect with that guilt and attempt to use it to create a better future to make up for the past. These parties are fairly successful.

2281: The Lunaites respond to overcrowding by starting a colony in South America. Many of the South American refugees from two decades before have no interest in returning to a destroyed land, and the returnees are largely the descendants of early Polynesian climate refugees.

2293: The Great Chinese Revolt occurs against Mongol Revolt. Han Chinese rise up and are only defeated with nuclear weapons. In the aftermath, the Mongols attempt to ethnically cleanse the northern Chinese client states and annexes them into Mongolia proper. Ironically, the use of nuclear weapons enrages the until-then largely peaceful south.

2298: New Aztláni forces defeat the armies of warlord Ivan Pavloyshyn somewhere in Podolia. Pavloyshyn and his forces were the last major barrier to the success of the sea to sea scheme.

2309: The Expansive Tent of National Liberation is founded between the two RoCs and various anti-Mongol groups. It launches a War of National Liberation shortly after.

2311: The House of Jagtap rises up in the Terran Empire and attempts to wrest control of the country from the ruling House of Paria.
