Description Ad Infinitum = without limit, forever, or any similar meaning to this fancy phrase that's appropriate for my third annual new-year's deviation, a sparkly and celebratory space scene of course to end one rich, eventful year and promise the same for the next, just as I have done at the turn of the new year with previous pieces such as Lightyear and Shoot for the Stars – and just look at how far I have come since those

I've been itching to make another space scene for a while, since the last actual outer-space artwork I made was over 2 months ago. This one is 99.9% pure Photoshop work, wondering what the 0.01% is? It's those tiny little peaks on the closest planet at the bottom that seem to be catching the last afternoon light, those were done in Vue 6. The planets were made in the conventional way - using satellite images to form the basis of their surfaces. The nebula that fills the entire scene is completely brushed from scratch, with some manipulation of some cloud photo's I took to form those dark, feathery dust clouds obscuring some areas of it

Happy new year everbody!. Please only view my art and not use in in any manner, thankyou!

I used to use acrylics years ago before going all-digital, but admittedly my traditional attempts were never as detailed as yours (paints also dried too quickly before I could do any complex blending )

Yes... they do dry quick... u can use an extender for acrylics and it does help.Β

I absolutely LOVE this! I bow to your greatness. In fact, I'm really interested in buying a print. A really BIG print. The image shown is somewhat small, I assume the actual print version is much bigger? (I don't know how this stuff works honestly) Is the resolution on the print detailed enough to look good on a 30x45 inch print? (cause that would be awesome!)

Glad you liked it I checked out the available print sizes. The largest it says you can get here is 76cm x 114cm

Thanks for the reply I'm curious about the original resolution of the image? The "Details" section says itsΒ 1944Γ—1224, however, a friend is telling me that's not enough pixels to make a quality looking print on something as big asΒ 76cm x 114cm. Is he right/wrong? I'm hoping you could help

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to Rykov55 [2015-10-07 11:26:04 +0000 UTC]

The full resolution is 5400 x 3400. That smaller amount there is just for this preview mode. Still, this is an older artwork, so it does come with its risks regarding prints. But I have not heard any complaints from previous buyers yet

I recently bought this for my son for Christmas and just got a chance to take it out of the box and look at it. Is it common to put your web site on the bottom?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to TeriD40 [2014-12-20 23:25:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I noticed a lot of other artists did that so I thought it was the norm. deviantART's printing team also has some standards when it comes to the size and placement of text or watermarks and they'll refuse to make an artwork available as a print if they feel the presence of it has too much impact on the artwork

I'm used to seeing artwork framed myself. Typically frames somewhat distract away from stuff like that

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TeriD40 In reply to Chromattix [2014-12-25 23:03:44 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't mind but it's an eyesore that distracts from such a beautiful image. Is it possible to remove the link from the image and just leave the signature. It would be amazing if so.Β

Hmm, did you already buy the print? If not I could probably remove it from the print file before buying it.

these planets are WAY to close.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to alpharaptor6 [2014-06-06 00:36:12 +0000 UTC]

Unless they're a lot further apart and the camera is just zooming in on them really closeley

That's how they get those "massive sun" sunset shots too

GlowingSpaceMonkeys [2014-03-20 20:55:05 +0000 UTC]

Do you draw the textures on the planets yourself or do you use premade ones? Also, how do you make the nebulae in the background look so realistic? Do you use custom made brushes?

Sorry for all the questions. I just really want to learn how to make space art as good as yours.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to GlowingSpaceMonkeys [2014-03-21 01:08:12 +0000 UTC]

The planet textures are created using real textures with a lot of overlaying and manipulation (to avoid familiar features showing up or repeating) But the background is digitally painted with only small use of custom brushes. These types of nebulae generally are hard to create using textures or special brushes alone, but more generic-looking and distant nebula shots can be achieved that way.

Completely stunning in 12x18 "Lustre". A bit darker than how DA displays but it is completely gorgeous. Wonderful picture, thank you for sharing your beautiful art with us <3

That's cool! I think I remember being told I sold a print of this recently and wondered who it was since few bother buying ones that big

Yeah, everytime I print out my own work it comes out a bit darker, hopefully not enough to ruin it though, I ordered two large prints from dA a couple of years back and they were a little darker too but amazing quality. So I also know the awesome feeling of a new print arrival

Chromattix In reply to TylerCreatesWorlds [2011-07-08 05:45:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Creating depth in a nebula can be hard since the fact we see them all from far away kinda "flattens" them, so one just has to imagine what the formations would be like when immersed in them

I've always liked pictures like these. Two inhabitable worlds that reside side by side each other.

They make you wonder what the people on both worlds are thinking about when they look up into the sky at the other world.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to leobracerstudios [2011-02-09 12:12:28 +0000 UTC]

Same here, I usually include Earthlike worlds in my art since the idea they have stuff living on them makes the scene so much more alive than just gas and rock Sadly I don't think two planets would exist side by side this close with both managing to have similar lifeforms for real. But a large moon could one day be terraformed and after some time you'd have two planetary cultures looking up...and down on each other at the same time
