Yeah their relationship reminded me of my first crush. Similar personalities, but the girl was lost, and had issues I tried to help her get through, which in turn messed me up, and she ended up leaving me for an older dude that abused her. That shit hurt, but like Beast Boy, I had to realize "Things Change" and let it go. It helped me mature. This show helped me realize, I shouldn't go for ones with similar personalities, but one that's different. Not too different, but not too similar either. Like Raven is to BB.

Yes, this, all of this is yes. I completely relate to your story, and of course to Beastboy's with Terra, my first crush went down a very similar path.. In fact, a lot of my past friendships have gone down that path, too. She was very similar to me, but had her own demons and issues, and wasn't completely honest with me because of them, and me constantly trying to help be her crutch and forgiving her every time was.. nice and all, but eventually you have to look back on those past relationships and realize while there were good times, it just wasn't the right fit for either of you. I tried to raise her up but it only ended up bringing me further down. And at the same time, you wouldn't be where you are today and with the people you are today if it wasn't for those good and bad times. You don't forget people like that. I also learned I have WAaay more fun with people who aren't too similar to me, and I also feel more unique around people who contrast me - so, good feels all around!

Which is where I'm at with some of my past relationships. While their were great times, bad times, in the end it just wasn't meant to be. Some relied too heavily on me to help with there demons, but provided no assistance when I had to fight mine. Everything happens for a reason, and for every failure, comes with a lesson. It literally took me re watching this show to realize I was investing too hard into similiarites, when I should be appreciating the differences. I wouldn't want to date myself lol. It's about exploring differences, and appreciating it for what it is. Which is why I feel Beast Boy and Raven complement each other in that regard. Ravens maturity rubs off on BB, and BBs ability to have fun rubs off on Raven. My taste in women literally shifted because of this ship, and my huge crush towards raven lol

I couldn't agree more. They really compliment each other in a way that benefits them as individuals. BB has this amazing ability to see the good in everyone and lighten the atmosphere; he has fun with life and obviously flaunts that around Raven the most out of anyone on the team. Meanwhile Raven brings a more down-to-earth, logical approach to life that challenges BB. And in my own relationships, having that 'stronghold/logical' counterpart to match with my aloof nature is always comforting and fun. Because I'm an airhead when I'm comfortable around someone so I need that lol. Honestly, my preference for this pairing comes a lot from my own personal experiences and relating so much with how BB acts around people.Β

Yeah and I see myself in both, moreso Beast Boy cuz of his personality and constant use of banter and humor, but I show parts of Raven when im depressed, or in a weird mood. But I agree, the most successful relationships take balance. Finding a perfect medium between 2 partners is what makes a relationship fun/productive. Plus they both been through very similar experiences in the show, which is what brings them so close to each other. The moment in the end of Beast Within (which hints at their married couple dynamic), shows Raven relating to Beast Boys rage with his WereBeast, because she has her own representation of rage (Trigon demon). Where she wants to develop him into a "man", possibly for her to date when he matures. And it works vice versa in SpellBound. Raven experiences heartbreak for the first time, BB before her with Terra, and he relates to the feeling. Making them have a strong foundation of similarities, laced with personalities that clash from time to time, but still work in harmony. Raven, imo, is the best match for him, and the only one that has any chance of being paired with him, as Terra is gone and moved on to live her own life. And i kinda look at Raven and Beast Boy as two of my personalities. Putting them together as a pair, is like metaphorically seeing both my personalities co exist and working together in harmony. Like the Yin and Yang.

Lol, yeah it's funny because, a lot of BBRae shippers hate on Terra for getting in the way of the BBRae ship. When in reality, Terra actually helped with it. Her giving Beast boy experience, and pain causes him to be mature enough to date someone like Raven, and be the man Raven wants him to be. So in reality, she assisted in it. Which is why I don't really dislike her for that.
π: 0 β©: 1
ChryZoic In reply to hugldkrikdsn [2018-08-14 08:55:55 +0000 UTC]
Haha, yeah it is funny cause Terra honestly didn't get in the way of anything at all.. Raven and BB weren't even.. remotely close to dating during their time together.. I mean, I find it fun to make spoofs of Terra vs. Raven occasionally just cause I find it funny to joke about and all, but in the show Terra never got in the way of anything, nor was there a big rivalry over BB. Terra had her time with BB, they we're canonically dating, and I think some BBRae shippers get kinda.. hot-headed that Terra existed because of that and jump all over her betrayal of Beastboy at that :/
But Terra is a complicated character, and an extremely well-written one. The show did her complexity so much justice compared to other stories she was in at the time, too. Her relationship with BB influenced the both of them in different ways, and even if it hurt to watch, it was a healthy change in the end and moving on (especially from your first) is never easy.
But yeah, on everyone hating Terra and BBTerra just because they wanted BBRae to happen kinda gets on my nerves because making arguments like that completely overrides the amazing character Terra actually was, the fact that her and BB DID date, and the wonderful character development it pushed BB through.Β

Well, I have a theory on the whole Raven and Terra rivalry. Raven was jealous of her. Not only did Terra get praise, recognition, and control (supposedly) over her powers quicker than Raven, but Terra also took away the one thing the changeling often gave to Rae...attention. In this fanβs honest opinion, these things made Raven jealous and in the catfight in the mud within Aftershock part one, Terra highlighted Raven's jealously and struck a nerve when she said, "Come on Raven, what stinks the most? {...} That everyone liked me better than you?"
Considering Beast Boy & Starfire were the only ones to really be fond of the geomancer, the earth moverβs comment would thusly imply that BB & Star are the "everyone" that the earth mover meant when the comment was said.
With that in mind, this could very well mean that Raven was jealous that Terra had Raven's best friend (and sister-esque family figure) & Raven's possible--and more than likely--crush wrapped around her skinny-as-a-stick finger, which made Raven upset and caused her to be defeated (for her emotions got the better of her, just as they most often would for anyone who has a best friend and a crush that are being used by someone else). Even if they weren't dating, the feelings between them did exist (NeverMore), but it wasn't explored too heavily until after season 2.
I have to disagree with the well written part of her character. I felt she was under developed and rushed. Considering her character is based off one who was a true villain that used BB feelings as a ruse in the comics, her having this struggle could've worked if they really delved into it more. She didn't have enough episodes, and the betrayal almost came out of no where. That's why Glen mentions "We simply didn't have enough time". Meaning they wanted more from that character. For every Titan, I felt their pain, struggles, and celebrated with their successes when they overcame their obstacles. I didn't feel this way towards Terra, because it wasn't developed enough, IMO. Doesn't mean I dont understand her and her struggles. But she does help with BBs development tho.

Raven was definitely jealous of her, earning the attention of BB, Starfire and honestly every other member as they took to Terra very fast. I fully agree with you on that behalf. I also think Raven was annoyed at BB (and the others) in particular for trusting Terra so quickly. It's important to note that Raven never trusted her to begin with, that has always been a core part of Raven's personality. Being an empath, it's also safe to say that at some point or another her distrust was backed with suspicion of her intentions and reliability, and especially after their 'bonding' episode (or so you could call it I guess, considering they leave off as 'friends') where Raven ultimately gave Terra a chance and they formed a friendly relationship, having that faith in Terra tested and then broken was a heavy straw for Raven, who already had deep trust issues to begin with. So, for me, I saw the dynamic between Terra and Raven more about Raven's confirmed trust issues and Terra's betrayal as a whole rather than a rivalry over Beast Boy. I think Raven obviously extends her hurt over this to how BB despaired over Terra, especially since Terra was one of the few things she had never given him crap for or snarky comments about. During the climax of their fight scene, as Raven transforms into her demon-self, she even accuses Terra of specifically hurting him, "I trusted you, HE trusted you!"
So I agree that she was jealous, and obviously cares about how the entire situation had affected BB (as well as the others, but she puts an emphasis on BB due to her actions I feel), but I just don't feel it is as confirmed that it was heavily over romantic interest for BB. Or if it was, that wasn't at the front of her brain. It had far more to do with her general relationship with Terra and Terra's former place in the team and her fragile trust issues.
As for Terra as a whole, I do remember reading that bit, they planned on having her in for longer so that Terra's betrayal would feel more like a surprise to the audience, where the show ended up with it.. being quite obvious, since they unfortunately had to cut all that material planned for her. It is definitely rushed, and having her stick around with the team even a good half-season would have worked her character better, but for me, with the time she had on screen, they captured enough of her. The best part of Terra, for me at least, is the fact that she is a big mystery. She is so easily influenced and molded, insecure and confused about her identity. It leaves you wondering how she truly felt during each scene she was in, and that depth alone was enough for me. I like her staying more of a mystery that way because it reminds me of a few specific people I know irl who are just as insecure and confused, to the point that I can't tell if they're telling the truth over the simplest conversations. It's people like that that are really difficult to trust again because you never know how they truly feel and you wonder if they even know how they truly feel, themselves.

Yeah I'm not saying it was a heavy romantic interest. It was a slow burning relationship, that imo, took form after Terras arc. Which is why you see BBrae have "moments" after that situation happened. Which made sense, because Terra was his first crush (A lil rushed imo, but I understand why it happened). So imo, she had feelings for BB (Hence Nevermore constantly focusing on BB, and BB having the power to hurt her feelings, and bring her up with his constant attention because Raven cares a lot about what BB thinks of her) and it played a part to why she took a dislike towards her, adding along her trust issues, and the visions she saw of her relating to slade. As for the mystery part, I get what you saying. I just would've been more keen to feeling her hardship had they delved into that struggle between choosing slade or the titans. Though I definitely felt BBs pain once he found out. What I do relate to Terra to is this. She had a hard time finding a group of friends to accept her as a person with powers. I'm a guy who's heavily invested in my craft with music, which thus puts my mind in a creative state for more than I need to be. My talent with it, strayed me away from having social interactions, and created a weird wall that I can't seem to find a good group of friends. But yeah she has major identity issues, which is why I don't feel she's a hero or a villain. She has no idea what she is, and she was manipulated by Slade to tell her who she should be. Her immaturity due to her age, caused her to be easily influenced, and in the process, leaving the Titans out to dry. And how the Titans reacted was very justifiable in that regard, especially since she tried to kill them lol. But in the end, she understood what she needed to do, and leave that life behind her to find herself, and experience what it's like to just be normal. Which to me, is her happy ending, and one that BB needed to taste a sense of reality. It takes pain to grow, and that's what I liked about "Things Change" And the way they ended BB and Terras relationship.

Geez are we doubles?? We have way too much in common, istg. I was just about to add in my last bit about how my personal experiences with relationships extended to my own personality clashes and being able to relate deeply to both character's outlooks on life. Out of all the TT characters, I always think of my personality as 60/40 BB/Rae, my childish demeanor and tendency to wear my mind off my sleeve, make too quick of decisions when I think and speak, and pretty much constantly find ways to mess with and joke with my friends contrasts deeply with my 'opposing' introversion. I especially need the space to be completely alone, especially to sort out my emotions and to bring my all-over-the-place self back into focus. Which, honestly, is kind of a metaphor for how BB and Raven help sort each other out. When I go through depressed states, which man have I been there, and start to think love doesn't exist or any other dark things, it's alternatively my optimistic and laid-back nature that eventually drags me back out of it and reminds me that hey, you only get one shot at this life thing. Why not have some fun with it instead? There's not enough time on earth to sit in your room alone - go hang at the swings and laugh instead!
It only makes sense for me to favor the idea of BB and Rae together, I feel like I have first-hand experience of how that personality dynamic works to help one another because that's how it works in my own dang head xD

Lol, yeah and it's crazy to think a show I grew up watching, would have so much relatability to me as an adult. Cuz with BB, as I said, I tend to use humor a lot, but I also can become too open to people too soon, and develop attachments that would really hurt me if ulterior motives are involved. Which have occurred, and the same happened with Beast Boy and Terra. Or like how Raven resorts to books during her alone time, I resort to music when I need an escape (producing, or writing songs etc). And Ravens realistic outlook (some call it pessimistic) on serious situations tends to take over when it needs to. A problem I have, is that one personality might take over me in the most inopportune time. My outgoing attitude, has caused people to distance themselves from me, as they think I'm "weird". Just like BB and Raven, I'm more so misunderstood. Or when I need to have a positive outlook on certain situations to progress, my "pessimistic" side takes over, and bring myself and other people down because of it. BBRae represents balance to me. When it comes to bonding, BBs outgoing attitude helps Raven open up more. When it comes to serious issues, Ravens maturity keeps BB in level headed seriousness. Thus, making them act in the right ways when the situation calls for it. So in a sense, I need that "Raven" in my life to help bring me down when I have to, and I can help bring her up when it needs to be. Cuz yeah I used to be in a rocc bottom, clinically depressed state. I had to think positive too, in order to get myself out the slump, and embrace the forthcomings of life as it will end eventually. I've come to accept that life will happen the way it does, and it's best not to force things not meant to happen. Which in the comics that Beast Boy and Raven are a pair in, Beast Boy tells Raven to embrace her positive emotions. Their just too relatable not to pair. Both in their situations as is, and how we perceive them to be based off our personal experiences.

Yeah, finding alternative couples you like in case of a let-down is not a bad idea :,) Especially with that emphasized ending in Things Change, it seems unlikely to me that they'd get back together after that, or at least things might be a bit different if Terra came around to it again. I guess it really all depends on what twists the show had in plan for season 6.
I tend to side with BBRae as the end-game ship, but BBTerra definitely had it's moments and I think they both taught each other a lot of important life lessons they each needed at the time. The show did a fantastic job of portraying 'first crush/infatuation/love' through them
