Is it just me or are there any other comic fans that think Watchmen should NOT be made into a movie? It's widely regarded as the most influential comic masterpieces of all time and probaby for good reason. I think it's so good because of it's medium - it's a story that (in theory) should only work in comic format.
There's been a lot of good movies recently featuring superheroes - Dark Knight, Batman Begins, X-Men 2, Spiderman. However these have all undergone major changes to suit the film medium. If you change even the slightest detail of Watchmen however you lose a lot of its meaning.
Case in point: costumes. The aforementioned films all have suits that are very different from their comic counterpart - X Men went all leather, Spidey goes silver mesh, Batman went almost sci-fi with his suit.
But you cant change the ones in Watchmen as it's one of the main themes of the story. And as such, seeing the trailer and the costumes on screen they look a bit (dare I say) camp and dated. Costumes in comics are pretty much a standard device of a genre which is why they work. I'm having a hard time getting excited for the film.
Nevertheless I was wrong about Heath Ledger and I hope I'm wrong here. Rorschach DOES look awesome in the trailer and I'd see it for him alone.
Anyway enjoy this pic as my homage to a great character and a great book.

I agree 100%. From what I've seen, the movie already looks far too flashy and commercial for my liking, especially after seeing the latest trailer and posters. But I really don't expect anything more than that.
Visually, it's stunning. I mean -- wow! Amazing to see these scenes come to life . . . but that's just not enough when it comes down to it.
Myself, personally, I'm not sure I'll be seeing it.
In any case, this picture is great!

1) on the whole movie thing it can never be as amazing as the graphic novel. no matter who did it, it just cant be. but i hope with everything i have it doesnt disappoint too much. 2) Fuck yeah Seaking Rorschach FTW!!!!!!!!! 3) in case #2 did not convey how excited i am about this picture i will restate: this is awesome.

hey nice job on this bro! i'm definitely lookin' forward to next year's flick... back in the day this was probably the most ground breaking comic i ever read and i'll be interested to see how the Hollywood writers pull it off.

I read in a magazine that the director is a huge fan of the comic and is trying to keep as much of the material as possible. Like I said, hopefully I'm wrong and it'll be an awesome film.

Great picture, best character ever...
I haven't seen the trailer, but a friend of mine saw it and said it looked perfect, spot-on from the book. As for the camp and dated look, aren't they supposed to look camp and dated?
The costumes in the comic were quite plain, just regular people in near homemade costumes to me. So that wouldn't be my main concern when compared to the story elements which are HUGE.

I am quite wary about Watchmen being made into a movie. The entire work ties into itself so perfectly that removing even a single element without heavy forethought could ruin the entire experience.

I read the comic several times, and I came to the conclusion that it CAN be made into a movie, and even a GOOD movie
its just very hard
