Description Had some downtime towards the end of work today, figured I'd try my hand at another spitpaint.  It's interesting to consciously not use photo textures while I tend to use that as part of my workflow, even if it's just to lay in random colors/shapes, so it's just big, big brushes that are messed around with on different layers then compressed down.  Some blending mode shenanigans, Soft Light is my friend, but yeah... fun times

30min. Photoshop CS6

It's very fun and you start working on means to be more efficient and helps build up your speed and on-the-fly problem solving

Thank you very much It's interesting working with a time constraint, figuring out what works best/quicker vs. what simply works best haha

A few of my friends have been doing them through their FB group (www.facebook.com/groups/140256… ) and it's been a pretty good experience.  For me I like it because it's a fun challenge to see what I can do within the 30min. without using one of the tools I use regularly, which is photos as texture/color.  It's fun, I highly recommend trying them, if anything for the practice and warm-up

I'll maybe try some.. I'm soooo not that great at straight-up digital painting haha. Usually work over a drawing. Something to think about though! (Checked out the FB page, everyone there is really good!!)

I think spitpaint might be a good gateway to more digital work, I mean it's a bit of a trial by fire approach since you have 30min. to whip out an illustration, so you'll learn tools and tricks quicker I think

I didn't start tackling straight digital until a few years ago, before that I did 95% of my work with my good ol' graphite pencils and paper haha  I say give it a shot, they're pretty fun and a good way to get yourself more comfortable with digital IMHO.

Cool
I only have a mouse haha I do ok for the colouring I do, but I think for more intense digital stuff I'll have to try out a tablet thing XD
My favourite is still just plain ol pencil and paper

While learning digital I used to use Wacom's cheapest tablet line at the time, the Bamboo hehe.  I think they were $40 apiece? Yeah... early on you just need something that works, worry about the finicky stuff like pressure sensitivity and the like later haha ^_^

I think my first true love will always be my trusty pencil and paper though
