Description During the latest (and last) Frontier War, a lance of Zhodani Z-80 Grav Tanks comes under attack from Imperium Rampart Class Starfighters. Despite their speed, EMmask Systems, and prismic aerosols, the Ramparts release their ordnance with devastating effect to one of the Z-80s.
Despite this, the Zhodani, with co-operation from various Vargr groups, and the Sword Worlders, drive the Third Imperium out of their territory for a fifth time.

The Zhodani would later learn that it would be the last, thanks to Dulinor’s callous act that in effect shatters their greatest threat to Zhodani Sovereignty.

I wanted to indulge into my passion for Traveller again, and this time on a subject that is major in the franchise, but not well covered – the Zhodani.

The Zhodani are a race of humans who descended from those taken by the mysterious Ancients and were experimented. As a result, the Zhodani have become telepathic. They have an authoritarian society ruled with true “thought” police. To the Imperium, the Zhodani are seen as cold, narrow minded, and undemocratic. However, the Zhodani not only regard the Imperium as conquers but also as insidious; in Zhodani society, no one can hide secrets therefore no one can do bad things, resulting in a very stable society; the Zhodani regard the Imperial citizens as evil and untrustworthy because by not having telepathy, they can hide their thoughts which encourages devious behaviour.

The Zhodani are two meters tall, slimmer than ordinary humans and are known to wear headgear akin to turbans. Their empire is called the Zhodani Consulate and is ruled from the world of Zhdant.

Unlike the Imperium, the Zhodani have no interest in conquest, or empire building; they have the nation the right size and defend it vigorously – they do not want any business with anyone – especially the Third Imperium. The latter does not respect the former’s wishes which have resulted into numerous border clashes.

I loved the Zhodani for that – their fierce independence and defiance; something that appealed to me a lot.

The Z-80 is the standard Zhodani Grav Tank but very little is known; it has been clocked at a top speed of 1000KPH, and is similar to the Imperium’s Trepida Grav Tank.

There is a lot of elements I placed here to make the pic more but my favourite bit is the sub fogged by the sky. It gives the piece an eerie setting.

Like to hear your thoughts – meantime – Enjoy!

Amazing!! I really like the story you quickly wrote down. I guess I'm similar to those Zhodani. ^^  I love how the front tank is knocked backwards, you really make it seem that it was spinning out of control from the explosion, and the two aircrafts flying to safety are really  well drawn. Feels like their dishing out a last ditch attack before retreating!!

Excellent work as always!!

Hmm, never thought that with the front tank! Must have been something subconcious!

Thank you sir for your kind words and great support

Aah, you've got your Traveller works up and running I see! This is a terrific subject of you, I can promise you that, because you have all
the experience and knowledge of it to make it look accurate and appealing, and the enthusiasm to give these works a lot of life. This'll
be a treat!

I must say that this Z-80 tank here is unlike any tank I have seen before. It's very sleek and narrow, yet armed heavily enough that it
can certainly hold its own weight- and 1000 KPH is quite impressive for any armoured vehicle by speed!

Love the action in this. The grey, foggy sky is grim and menacing, and the explosion in the top right are always a ton of fun; I do love
what you can do with a little light and shrapnel.

This is a series which I am looking very forward to seeing more of; you've definitely caught my interest there.

Yeah - the Z-80 is an unuusal tank! Its a striker!

The info on her is vague but then again, it's the opposition. So info will be sketchy.

I am glad you love the sky, that was again where it worked.

Oh and if you like this - check out the latest stuff

Read the stories - it will help you understand the Traveller universe

Cheers sir for your grand support

I-Plexiglass In reply to Colourbrand [2013-06-20 05:41:14 +0000 UTC]

Indeed! It's got subtle qualities which can only be picked up on if you really think about
the structure of the tank itself. Hovering tanks are not uncommon in sci-fi, for example,
but the qualities which add to or make it hover make all the difference.

Isn't that a shame? Plot elements or objects which have little info on them are usually the
most interesting, yet there is so little to go from that much of it has to be speculated.
That can be a lot of fun too, however!

I must try and find them somewhere. Studies and school have restricted my leisure schedule
significantly to the point that I haven't found time to do that yet- it's too bad!

You've got talent and execution on your side good sir; makes your work all the more
inviting.

School...just make sure when you leave that you can read, write, and add up.

You start learning once you leave - trust me on that

And School is not everything - trust me on that too

I-Plexiglass In reply to Colourbrand [2013-06-22 23:52:59 +0000 UTC]

I've heard that from many people I have asked. Seems I'm already graduating material; reading,
writing, and adding are three things I've done since four. School just lets you read, write,
and add at a larger scale!

An unexpected surprise! Great to see this subject... and the strafing Ramparts. Tres cool!
So you you do these ALL digital, or do you sketch out the basics, scan 'em, and apply colo(u)r from there?

Colourbrand In reply to RobCaswell [2013-06-03 17:48:05 +0000 UTC]

Hey well it needs the love - whoever designed them made a striking vehicle - plaudits to them!

Yes alas that is how I do it - the latter; I do tinker the scene to make certain elements work.

Finally someone makes me some Z-80's! And I'm not surprised it's you mate.
In 101 Vehicles by DGP (Rob Caswell and Tom Peters et al.), also for Megatraveller there are pics of Zhodani speeders and G-Carriers, and full stats and a side wiev on the Z-80. I can either scan them for you or copy them closely if you'd like them? (depending on copyright issues?) Also have quite a few of zhodani infantry if you'd like?

This pic is now my new desktop background. Excellent work!

Excellent Always dug the Zhodani as well. They weren't an evil empire or anything like that... they were just different. They embraced psionics, the Imperium had the Psionic Suppression Wars. Was fun in our games exploring the different viewpoints. And of course the hardware was very cool to mess with. Psionically controlled switches and equipment.... The grav tanks like this very cool rendition and their array of ships. The iconic Zhodani combat armor and of course their infamous Warbots
