Description Desperately out of date and boring as hell sketch I found. It inspired a bunch of drawings of dogfish and sharks and derived sharks from my imagination. Probably got things terribly wrong but there you are.

Just feel incredibly unproductive so I went through some old sketch books.

I love the hatch-y textures here--they really pop out the mouth, gills, and lateral lines (well...not "lateral lines," but lines that are lateral) of the body. Β I'm surprised you don't think more highly of this one, it's a beautiful sketch!

Well you know me Tom. I am an odd one. I get hung up on not doing it perfectly. The sketching part I am ok with it's the accurate representation of the prehistoric dogfish I'm not so keen on. I have seen other reconstructions and they show a different shaped body to the one I did here.

I actually like it! It's really nice sketch in my opinion.

Thanks, my problem is that i have seen other reconstructions that show a different looking animal. I just think the ref I used wasn't quite enough. The hatching I got tired of halfway through but I did get lots of inspiration so that is a very good thing.

It looks like a drawing from a biology book from the 19th century. I like it!

Thanks, when I was drawing it I was on a hatching run. It would rather fun I think to do engravings. Then I'd really get the 19th/18th century look.

Oh yes, I always wanted to do engravings. Have you ever tried?

I have tried woodcuts and linocuts but never engravings.

It's a completely different thing I guess (tried lino too long time ago).

I think with engraving you scratch into a metal plate. And the scratches hold the ink.

Yes, I guess it's more like drawing than like cutting.

I am sure it is something like that.
