Description This is a set of sketch cards I did for Comics for Cures, an event to benefit the American Cancer Society. I had participated before, so I wanted to help out again by donating some cards!

I wanted to try drawing characters I hadn't drawn before, so here you have Lobster Johnson, Terry Bogard, Boba Fett and Lion-O. They were fun to make and it was cool to practice a little at making sketch cards, since I had only done it once before. I had to take a photo because my scanner sort of eats up the colors. I hope you guys like them, and when they're up for auction on eBay I'll let you know the links in case you want to bid on them!

Comics 2 Games will be hosting a sketch card gallery show and Benefit Auction for American Cancer Society on April 3rd, 2010.

I hope you like this set! I'll be uploading my blog soon with some process shots and different photos, so keep dropping by www.nakamurasplace.blogspot.com to check those out

These are very awesome, Carla! I saw the first two on your blogspot site, so I hadn't seen the other two 'til now. I hope that they sell well and kudos for helping a good cause.

Thanks, Andrew! Yeah, I don't have a lot of money but if I can contribute through art I'm more than happy to do it. I've been posting some progress shots over at blogspot because I think people might like to take a look at that

I really like the shading on this, especially on areas like Terry's neck, you've got some great lighting and planes that you're creating!

Thanks so much once again! I need to experiment more with not only colored pencils (which I used to color these cards), but with other traditional mediums. I feel like sometimes I take the safe way and only use digital techniques because I'm "scared" of ruining something while experimenting with different ways of coloring (since I've never really had formal training and there's no "undo" button when you color traditionally haha), but I definitely feel like I need the practice. Thanks a lot for a boost of my confidence!

You did a really good job with those coloured pencils! Look how vibrant they are - a bit different than your usual digital colour schemes eh?
How big are these?

Thanks so much! I'd say that digital coloring definitely has been helping me a lot in the traditional field, but I still need a lot of practice with the colored pencils (since I barely color anything using them). I was happy with how these cards came out anyway, I'm glad you liked them too. They're about 6x9cm. I'm not really used to drawing small, that's why I chose to do mostly headshots - I know artists that can really rock some insane poses on these small cards, unfortunately I'm not at that level of skill yet.

Thank you! I need to practice a bit on the colored pencils. I don't usually use them much because my scanner eats up the colors, but I really should practice, even if it's on pieces I won't post online later. I'm really glad you liked these, Dan! I may have to do a full-body Lobster Johnson sometime.

The hat guy his Terry Bogard, he's a character from the Fatal Fury and King of Figters games series (and also Garou: Mark of the Wolves, but he looks different in that game, i.e., he has no hat). Glad ya liked them and these cards are about 6x9cm. I'm not really used to drawing small, so that's why I went mostly with headshots.

So detailed! Did you make them with crayons? The result is epic. You should make more like that!

cool-slayer In reply to ForgetfulRainn [2010-03-04 14:51:51 +0000 UTC]

I used coloring pencils, actually. And thanks, glad you liked it! I always feel a little hesitant to color using pencils, but in this case I had to and I liked it a lot. I guess I have to discover a good provider of sketch cards so I can do more of them - these ones were provided by Blue Line Art so we could draw on them and donate.

I meant coloring pencils by "crayons", but wasn't sure it meant that... My bad! But yeah, I really like what you can do with pencils, it has a different texture, with more details and such, more rough. I like!
