Description They're my eyes. I've never liked drawing myself, and it's especially unusual for me to do such personal work. I didn't want to share it, but I realized that I basically promised people I would put it on FB, and if it's there, it may as well be here.
I did it in a single sitting overnight.

Drawn in 6.5 hours.

Maybe it's because I'm browsing through your Gallery, but the first thing that came to mind was that the eyes were ofΒ Elijah Wood in LotR. Take that as a compliment, I guess.

This is simply amazing, the emotion captured in your eyes... honestly leaves me speechless. I'm so glad I came across your works. Truthfully, I've been finding it hard to get into art lately - lots of stuff going on - but coming across your works has really made me want to start drawing and painting again... I just love coming across such expressive pieces like this. Thank you

oh my, i just realised who you are! i watched your tutorial a few weeks ago on your landscape, and it absolutely blew me away. watched you for sure, you're incredible!

oh golly, dont even ask. haha i cant remember. but it helped me so much!
but i found you the second time around with getwatchers.

how is it that your not incredibly da famous? have you been hiding under a bed or something? haha

CorbinHunter In reply to mgscreative [2013-01-08 04:47:27 +0000 UTC]

I'm super glad!
Yeah, I've been trying out getwatchers for the last few days... kinda meh overall. It feels like cheating, haha.

Oh, goodness no. I just haven't been producing enough art and I don't specialize in anything, so I have a rather forgettable gallery. Also I haven't been submitting to enough groups and whatnot, so. Yeah. But this year, 2013, I plan to get awesome, so I'll be getting some more attention in six months' time

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mgscreative In reply to CorbinHunter [2013-01-08 04:58:25 +0000 UTC]

mm i know right! i have the same feeling, but i dont get ANY views if i dont, so ill do a couple a day anyways haha

Forgettable gallery? Thats makes sense, considering i recognised you. haha
I never submit to groups... is it beneficial?
Newsflash, not to give you a big head, but you already are awesome! haha you're what i aspire to, for sure.
6 months, thats rather specific.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CorbinHunter In reply to mgscreative [2013-01-08 21:58:13 +0000 UTC]

Groups can get you a toooon more viewers, yeah. Think of it this way: if you have a deviation that has 700 views and 100 favourites, what would happen if it had 7,000 views? Most likely, you would gain another 900 favourites. More exposure will definitely gain one attention, and groups are a platform for exposure.
Haha, thanks.
Well, I did a lot of speed studies and stuff last year, trying to get my bearings on environments, trying to get more comfortable with various types of paintings. This year, it's all about portfolio building. I've done some studying, now it's time to really flex my art muscles.
I can definitely say that only a couple images in my gallery actually display my current skill level. So within the next few months, I plan on fixing that.

ooh i must look into that then! how do you find groups though? haha ive been on deviantart for 3 years, and only finding this out now.
gosh, you're so dedicated! i struggle to find motivation all the time:/
are you wanting to freelance as a career, or are you just an incredibly perseverant person?
or perhaps im the oddity.. haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CorbinHunter In reply to mgscreative [2013-01-09 02:01:11 +0000 UTC]

I usually check what groups other artists are a part of. If a painting is in thirty groups, I peek through them and see if I fit with any of them. I just started submitting to groups about a week ago, too.
Haha, yes, I'd like to go into illustration and concept art eventually. Motivation is sometimes a big problem for me, too. Look at lots of art, read lots about art, and then make a list of things you actually want to accomplish and how you want to accomplish them. The more you think about your art, the better your art turns out, and the more fun it is. For instance: I want to be better at drawing creatures, especially reptilian creatures like dragons. To accomplish this, I've begun to sketch a dinosaur from reference every morning. It's already making me more aware of dino bodies.

mgscreative In reply to CorbinHunter [2013-01-10 07:17:33 +0000 UTC]

thats a good idea, ill definitely start keeping an eye out for good groups
oh thats great, i think youd be so good at it!
i really like your idea for doing one drawing every morning. even just in one day, i drew 6 faces from reference and found the difference between the first and last astounding. i may just steal this idea from you

now just to decide on what i need to improve on most.... can i say everything? haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CorbinHunter In reply to mgscreative [2013-01-10 07:23:24 +0000 UTC]

I drew a few faces the other day, too. I figure if I draw many pretty, elegant, well-proportioned faces, my own faces will start to adopt those traits.
Mhmm, drawing every single day is the way to do it. Half an hour every day beats three hours every weekend!
I know, I have the same problem. My list of things to draw / paint is overwhelming! Faces, anatomy, design work, environments of various sorts, snow, forests, architecture... it drives me crazy!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mgscreative In reply to CorbinHunter [2013-01-10 11:23:34 +0000 UTC]

i think i might start doing half hour sketches and speedpaints each morning yay improvement!

haha i reckon, so much to draw, so little time. im thinking about writing all those things on pieces of paper, and then drawing them out of a hat. then i thought, this is too much effort haha.
i might just see whichever i feel like i need to do each day. something i really want to get better at is environments, inspired by yourself of course!

oh, and i submitted your mountain painting to a group called da-talent. you can only submit other deviant's work, and someone submitted one of my works a little while ago. i hope you dont mind ive been submitting my own work to a couple of groups, trying to get the hang of it, while being mindful of not spamming. its actually kind-of fun.

CorbinHunter In reply to mgscreative [2013-01-10 16:55:13 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely do it!

And thanks! I've actually found that submitting to groups is more efficient than using getwatchers, and it feels more rewarding too.
