Description

Go south of Lander Wyoming to highway 28--climb a pretty good sized hill on the way to South Pass City, Wyoming and near the top you will find a couple places to stop and take your very own (and probably much better) shots of the Red Cliff Valley

again, not a single image but 3 bracketed images (-2, 0, +2)

I did try some panoramas--they suck as usual --so I won't be posting those anytime soon. I just can't get the hang of it

It's funny how we seem to remember the shots we take...they all have a story and certain memories associated with them. I know what you mean...we've been here a long time now.

This is absolutely stunning John. Did you shoot the 3 images free hand or use a tripod? What program did you use to combine them? Nice work indeed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Corvidae65 In reply to Waxmanjack [2011-05-29 19:34:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh no--I can't shoot anything like this free hand I used a tripod For combining them I first converted the RAW files to JPEGs in photoshop CS3 and then used Paint Shop Pro 12 HDR Photomerge to combine them. There is still a lot that I don't understand about this sort of thing

Thank you Jack

That`s a glorious gorgeous viewpoint Brother
What are the red cliffs made out of,they are right eye catchers, love it
And what`s wrong with your Pannys?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Corvidae65 In reply to JonnyGoodboy [2011-05-17 02:59:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Brother, Thank you

I think the red cliffs are mineralized rock--lots of iron ore in the area and it turns the rock and dirt red.

My panny's are not up to snuff--I'm just not getting good results in exposure and color. I'm trying some new things--shooting in full manual where I can control ISO, Apeture, Shutter, White Balance and color instead of relying on any of the auto modes.

I've got some panny's from this place I'll work up when I get the chance.

Alright, welcome and thanks for the info Brother,it`ll do you no harm at all using the full manual set up,will be looking forward to your well adjusted equally exposed Pannys brother

Mebbe start with 2-shot panoramas first...I have a "helper" on my camera & if u have one-you should use it...
(beautiful shot anywayzz!!)

Corvidae65 In reply to melly4260 [2011-05-17 02:43:58 +0000 UTC]

Probably a good idea You know...I used to have a Kodak C875 point and shoot camera that took amazing panoramas and stiched them in camera, but this Nikon D90, foir all it cost and all the features it has doesn't have that feature I'll get it nailed one of these days, I hope

Thank you Melly
