I think it's more likely that the Knight is Kris or the vessel or some new character, but hear me out: What if it's Papyrus?I mean, we never see him in Chapter 1, and he's implied to younger/shyer/a bit of a shut-in by Sans going out of his way to try and get Papyrus some friends (while in Undertale he is running outside actively looking for friendship) so is it possible that Papyrus could be going into the Dark World to feel important or have friends. It's only a theory, but a lot of Deltarune's themes seem to revolve around escapism, and each of these characters have reasons to stay in the fantasy of the Dark World instead of the real one.
A few other interesting details is how the other kings were not killed but locked up instead, implying that the Knight has at least some sense of mercy. Also, following how Darkners derive their purpose from Lightners, it's highly possible that the Knight could be a lightener given how they command the Darkners so easily (of course, that Lightner could easily be Kris or something). Sans is implied to be a Darkner by the colours of his badtime eye and bleeding, so how these two came to be brothers I'm not entirely sure, but I guess Gaster probably had something to do with it. All in all, we don't really know enough to draw conclusions, but I wanted to some cool art anyways.
Though, wouldn't it be funny if we met a knight that looked like a Gaster, spoke like a Gaster (all caps), but was really just a fedora-wearing teen in his overly-bulky armour?
Anyways, Knight! Papyrus here is wearing a full "battle body", meaning that you can't see a hint of bone through it. His class is "Light Knight" mirroring how Susie's class is "Dark Knight" once she becomes a member of the party. If he has the fedora-toting persona of proto-pap, this might also literally make him a "white knight", which is godawful but also hilarious. He's not the final baddie, he's still in service of his liege, but his fight is pretty tough.
Kris is ready to FIGHT - but the key to this fight might ultimately be making friends.

Make's think of Underfell Papyrus more than the Undertale one.
But has you type that this Papyrus is going to the dark world to feel important so it make's sense here.
I wonder if Sans go's sometime's to the dark World to escape from things. If anyone needs it, It's him...what with him knowing the timelines and all.
Another question is Gaster a darkner or lightner...Or even both.

I think in the same way that Asriel played up a 12 year old's idea of super cool (rainbows, hyper-death, etc) the Knight would be a similar exaggerated fantasy trope for a 16 year old's idea of cool, being all edgy and serious but really just still being a huge goofball on the inside. I personally believe Sans is a darkner, so I think he would spend some time in the Dark World, but maybe not as much for escapism since this is before he lost everybody (you'll never see them again) and before he got stuck in an endless cycle of resets. Maybe to relieve the stress of running a shop or working with the G-man.
Gaster I'm not sure about. He's a real big mystery. I like the idea of the Riveperson being a darkner though!
