Description Cal-Fire Condor UAV Fleet

Condor's provide aerial surveillance to the fire teams on the ground. Able to operate for longs periods of time their participation in operations is crucial. Beyond providing aerial eyes-on they are also the newest addition to Helitack units able to bring in fire retardant and water drops as pre-emptive strikes against the fires ahead of the ground teams.

Condor strikes can be remotely guided or visually guided by either a spotter aircraft or by a field operative. They cannot carry as much retardant/water as the larger passenger planes or skycranes, so they are often deployed in teams of 3 to help compensate. Their ease of operation and autonomy make them a quicker alternative as well.

Based on the South African Vulture UAV models, Condors are maximized for extended aerial operations. Solar panels are distributed along the back of the wings and upper back. An extended wingspan helps keep the Condor flying longer at lower speeds while cutting energy consumption.

The large outbreak of fires across the state has stretched the Condor fleet thin. As the drought continues and the fires keep spreading the Condors will be in the skies watching over the parched landscape.

Looks like red bird poo huh... We'll just get that out of the way right now.

I've been going back through your gallery and checking out your animal drones. I can't get enough of these! Your designs make sense, are very well-though out, and are visually appealing! Not only that, but you've done a phenomenal job giving each unique drone its own niche within the operational spectrum!

This is admirable artwork. The complimentary colour scheme, composition, lighting, and detail create a powerful atmosphere and sense of place. Well done. You definitely deserve more recognition as an artist.

Red bird poo? More like flaming diarrhea. Good thing it resembles fire retardant drops from heli's IRL. The fluff text helps. This entire series is friggin' incredible

A condor as a UAV would be tremendous, as condors are some of the world's best endurance flyers because of that wing setup of theirs.  Good job on these!

i love the concepts at play here, as well as the colors and the actual mechanical design ^_^ i wish we had drones to help our firefighters. ive known several men and women who have been badly wounded fighting fires for the state (i live in CA).

I'd think that another advantage to these would be their ability to mate up with or land on a small undercarriage flight deck of a large helo (modified Sikorsky Sky Crane) to reload fire retardant.  Maybe a modified Osprey... Or even a futuristic version of a military style cargo plane, with a rear ramp. The UAV could fly itself into the hold.

As always, Robert, another wonderful piece of art and fantastic vision!
