Description

“Many collectors died in process of searching for new species, and despite persistent reports that the men died from drowning, gunshot and knife wounds, snakebite, trampling by cattle, or blows in the head with blunt instruments, it is generally accepted that in each case the primary cause of death was orchid fever.”

Oh no!!!  An early case of orchid fever - I knew I shouldn't have submitted this one
....but with early recognition it still may not be too late

To be fair they didn't leap around a lot and therefore gave me a good time to think! Amazingly the flowers were actually on the plant for almost six months without wilting or fading. I was pleased with the result though

I always wondered if John Wyndham was inspired by fields of sunflowers as they followed the sun during the day en masse  and just added the sting and the ability to uproot and move...

I always thought it was motivated by the natural acting unnaturally. With the fall of humans as the apex predator,
nature would fill the gap, but plants always seemed like a poor choice?
I do like the theory of sunflowers though.

Beautiful Flower shot!  I've been known to take a few flower pix myself so I don't Fav many.  This work certainly stands out.

That is very kind. I always like to ask myself...
'Would a flower photograph I take look better than one on the front of a seed packet?' - if not, forget it!

From what I've seen of your gallery, your photography is WAY above the SSS or "Seed Packet Standard."  I've added you to my watch list so I can see more of your postings.

It's a truly incredible plant - no wonder the Victorians chose to risk everything searching for new examples!
